[11.06.21] Han Ye Seul, “Shinhwa members are all very open-minded, as for Eric…”

Actress Han Ye Seul (30) shared her thoughts about her Spy Myungwol co-star, Shinhwa member Eric (32), and the other Shinhwa members that she has worked with, at the press call held on 20th June at the KBS drama production centre in Suwon.

The actress has earned praise from fellow cast members and the production crew for her relentless portrayal of the titular character, North Korean spy Han Myungwol, who is tasked to seduce top Hallyu star Kang Woo over to North Korea. Including Eric, Han Ye Seul has already worked with a total of 4 Shinhwa members – Junjin in “Legend of the Nine-tailed Fox”; Andy in “Nonstop 4″; and also hosting duties on SBS Inkigayo with Kim Dongwan.

Having worked with more than half of Shinhwa, Han Ye Seul has used the term “open mind” to describe them. She said, “Shinhwa members are considerate of others, and they would take the initiative. People are usually more shy and uncomfortable around strangers but perhaps they have met more people so they’re more open-minded.”

In contrast, Han Ye Seul said that Eric “is more of a shy boy that I thought. Eric is a lot more different from what I imagined.”

“No matter what, Shinhwa are top idols and they seem very cool so I thought that Eric would be very confident and good with meeting people. But he’s unexpectedly very shy around strangers. At first he was even a little awkward, but after we got to know each other better he’s just like a boy.”

[11.06.21] Eric, “I’ll show a new side that’s comparable to, but different from Dokko Jin”

The upcoming KBS2 drama “Spy Myungwol”, also the post-discharge comeback drama for both Eric and Lee Jin Wook, held its press call on the afternoon of 20th June at the KBS drama production center in Suwon.

The drama stars Han Ye Seul as the titular spy from North Korea, who gets entangled in a haphazard romance with top Hallyu star Kang Woo, played by Eric.

Kang Woo is a character who wears only made-in-Italy suits and drinks only the best mineral water made with gold and diamond, with the ability to turn everything around him into a sensation.

On the other hand, Lee Jin Wook plays the role of an elite North Korean agent Choi Ryu. Well-trained in all weaponry and martial arts, Choi Ryu is a killing machine who’s capable of perfectly executing all orders. He travels south to aid Han Myungwol (played by Han Ye Seul) in her mission.

Eric said, “Because it’s my first project after getting discharged from the army, I’m as nervous as I am excited. That’s why I’ve prepared harder for this than for my previous projects.”

When asked about a possible comparison between the popular character of Dokko Jin (played by Cha Seung Won) from the MBC drama “Best Love”, Eric said, “I’m actually a fan of the drama too. When I saw the script I did see some similarities, and I thought I should say my lines like how Dokko Jin would. But I want to show a new side that’s different from, but comparable to Dokko Jin.”

Lee Jin Wook also shared his thoughts. “I’m very nervous because it’s my first project after returning from military service. For some reason I feel that I can’t shake off the links to the army but I think I’ve really become an adult after military service.”

[11.06.21] Spy Myungwol’s Eric, “I thought a lot about dramas and acting during my long break”

Having gone on a 2-year hiatus due to his military obligations, singer/actor Eric will be returning to TV screens with the upcoming KBS2 drama, “Spy Myungwol”. This is his first drama after “Strongest Chil Woo” in 2008.

During a press call for the drama held at 5pm on 20 June at the KBS Drama Production Center in Suwon, Eric said, “Since it’s my comeback project, everyone is anticipating it, and I’m just as nervous. I’ll do my best to present a fun and interesting drama that the audience will also enjoy.”

He added, “During my long break, I thought a lot about acting. In the past I was concerned with how to make myself stand out. Now I hope that i can make a good drama where my acting can complement and show off the rest of the cast.”

“Spy Myungwol” is a story about a female North Korean spy who is ordered to get married to South Korea’s biggest star and bring him to North Korea. Han Ye Seul plays the titular character.

Essentially a spy/intelligence drama, Eric has a considerable number of action scenes with Han Ye Seul. The cast and crew have just returned on location filming in Singapore, and Eric had only praise for his co-star. “There was a scene in Singapore where we had to run on the beach. I was really tired from the heat but Han Ye Seul remained energetic and continued to run tirelessly. I was really surprised when she managed the wire scenes with ease too.”

Han Ye Seul also expressed her satisfaction with her co-star. “The Shinhwa members are all very open-minded and outgoing so that’s great. When we met for the first time, Eric was more shy and uncomfortable around strangers than I thought, but as we got to know each other better, it’s less like that and we’re more comfortable with each other.”

“Spy Myungwol”, starring Eric, Han Ye Seul, Lee Jin Wook and Jang Hee Jin, is directed by Hwang In Hyuk of “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” fame, and has received much attention and anticipation. The drama is slated to take over “Babyfaced Beauty” and will air its first episode on 11 July.

[11.06.18] Dongwan’s Naver blog: 2011 (main page/profile pic updated)

The reason why I chose Liveworks
Is because it’s a company
That thinks more about how to make me brilliant…
Rather than how to promote and sell me.
Now that we’re working together I feel sorry for them…

Up until now, the companies that I’ve worked with, takes in about 40% of the artist’s opinion,
Whereas Liveworks adopts about 90% of the artist’s opinion.
Although not forgetting 10% of advice…

Whether people are disappointed or happy with the paths we have taken, mostly it was us who made the decisions.
Not Liveworks, which has been working hard for us and worrying on our behalf…

[11.06.16] Dongwan on Radio Star (consolidated news)

Kim Dongwan, “Minwoo and Eric will be co-CEOs of Shinhwa Company”

Shinhwa member Kim Dongwan has announced Shinhwa’s impending comeback with the setting up of Shinhwa Company.

On the 15th June episode of MBC’s Radio Star, Kim Dongwan said, “Shinhwa Company will probably be set up in another 2 months’ time. All things related to Shinhwa will be managed by this company.”

He added, “The official announcement is in the pipeline.” About Lee Minwoo and Eric taking the helm, Kim Dongwan said, “(All the members) have put in equal amounts of investment, but they will be stepping up to take up responsibility (for the company).”

When fellow guest Lee Hyunwoo brought up the topic of his nude portrait, the MCs said, “If we’re talking about nude, we have to mention Shinhwa.” The MCs went on to ask Kim Dongwan about the “first ever idol nude photobook”.

Kim Dongwan went on to re-enact some of the poses he did in the photobook. When Kim Gura asked, “There’s someone who lay down”, to which Kim Dongwan replied, “That was me. There were shots where I lifted banana leaves, where I was hanging from a tree and where I was lying down.” He re-emulated those poses much to the amusement of everyone on the set.

When asked about the sales of the photobook, he said, “It was a limited edition so it was sold out.”

[11.06.15] Eric unveils self-composed track ‘Hands Up’ for new drama ‘Spy Myung Wol’

Eric, who is currently filming the upcoming drama “Spy Myungwol” on location in Singapore, drew rousing cheers from fans who gathered on 12 June to help shoot a concert scene.

Eric plays the character of Korea’s top Hallyu star Kang Woo in the drama, and being part of a pioneer idol group himself, the scene looked as if it was straight out of a real concert, with his impressive rap and vibrant performance. On this day, Eric unveiled for the first time a song that he wrote himself. The hip-hop rap and powerful rhythms in the upbeat “Hands Up” is very suited for Eric’s vocal color.

Eric said, “I wrote the song and lyrics especially for the character of Kang Woo. We also worked on preparing an impressive choreography and performance in order to complement the Hallyu star status of the character.

Meanwhile, Eric’s fans volunteered to be part of the filming of the concert scene, with approximately 800 fans from Singapore, Thailand, Japan and Indonesia holding placards and cheering loudly on the cue of the production crew.

Eric also prepared about 800 burgers for the fans, some of whom stayed on late into the night. He also conveyed his gratitude to the fans, “Thanks to the fans who came for the filming and stayed on late, I was really very happy.”

“Spy Myungwol” which tells of the romance between North Korean spy Han Myung Wol (Han Ye Seul) and Hallyu star Kang Woo (Eric), will air its pilot episode on 11 July.

[11.06.14] Beautiful people Eric and Han Ye Seul in Singapore

Upcoming KBS drama “Spy Myungwol” has released photos from their location filming in Singapore.

Eric, Han Ye Seul and Lee Jin Wook arrived in Singapore on the afternoon of 9th June for the filming of Hallyu star Kang Woo’s (played by Eric) overseas concert tour, where he then encounters North Korean agents Han Myungwol (played by Han Ye Seul) and Choi Ryu (played by Lee Jin Wook) for the first time.

In the photo, Kang Woo is seen resting in his hotel suite after completing a concert performance, with his complex expression marking an interesting contrast with his luxurious surroundings.

The scene was shot in the presidential suite of Singapore’s famous integrated resort Marina Bay Sands. This latest landmark in Singapore was constructed by Korea’s Ssangyong E&C, and various parts of the hotel will be showcased for the first time, further heightening the anticipation for the drama.

On the other hand, Han Ye Seul shot a motorcycle chase scene in the heart of Orchard Road, Singapore’s busiest shopping belt. This scene was of top North Korean agent Han Myungwol tailing Hallyu star Kang Woo who was in a taxi, and the action scene captured everyone’s attention. In the photo, Han Ye Seul is seen dressed in a casual khaki jacket and wearing sunglasses, showing off her charismatic charm.

Filming had to come to a temporary halt when crowds gathered to catch a glimpse of Eric and Han Ye Seul, making the filming process even harder in the hot weather.

“Spy Myungwol” will air its first episode on KBS2 on 11 July at 9.55pm, taking over “Baby Faced Beauty”.

The photographs show Eric dressed in a blue shirt and white pants, exhibiting a handsome back view. Viewed from the side, Eric is just as suave with his sunglasses on.

Netizens have expressed, “Really looking forward to Eric’s comeback”; “He shines even in Singapore”; “He has a really great height, so handsome”.

[11.06.10] Myung-wol the Spy’s poster and promo stills (via Dramabeans)

Poster shoots were recently held for upcoming quirky romance Myung-wol the Spy, and my first impression is to laugh, which is always a good thing in a comedy, no? It’s looking pretty cute, with Eric, playing Mr. Big Hallyu Supa-star, cowering as he clings to North Korean undercover spy Myung-wol Han Ye-seul.

Bye-bye, Prince Charming and Daddy Long Legs, long live the scaredy-cat Beta Male! I loved this dynamic in My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho, so while the poster composition is looking a little familiar, I’m looking forward to the chemistry here. I’ve mostly seen Eric playing tough guys and badasses, but I know he’s got the comic side in him so I can’t WAIT to see how this plays out.

The second poster image includes Lee Jin-wook (Rivals), fresh out of the army and playing Han’s fellow spy. It doesn’t include the fourth leg of this romantic rectangle, Jang Hee-jin (2009 Hometown of Legends), but you can see her in the photo below, taken while the cast gave an interview on photo shoot day.

Jang plays a hotel heiress in a “Paris Hilton-esque” role who has to confront the rare scenario of not getting what she wants when both the men she’s been eyeing turn to Myung-wol instead. This means she’ll either be the irritating and meddling type of second lead, or amusingly antagonistic. I’m hoping for the latter, a la Lie To Me’s So-ran, since at least she provides laughs.

The promo stills below, released last week, show Myung-wol in action as a spy, while Eric looks his sharpest in his Hallyu star duds.

Eric explained that he finds a number of similarities between his character and his real self. His explanation makes me giggle, ’cause you’ve got to hear it in his dryly funny voice as he explains, “There’s the fact that we’re both singers and actors. In particular, we’re similar in appearance.” HA. He added, “But in real life I don’t treat people coldly like he does.”

Han described her character as differing from the usual image we have of North Korean spies from other works (no surprise, if you think back to Shiri or IRIS, where the ladies were badass and cold), and said, “She’s proficient in foreign languages, and represents a modern type of spy.” I guess that’ll give her a chance to speak English, which I enjoy because she’s the rare Korean star who is actually fluent in it.

All in all, Myung-wol the Spy is looking fresh and cute. The drama is part of the busy July drama lineup (which’ll replace May Madness), as it follows Baby-Faced Beauty on Mondays and Tuesdays. Its first episode airs on July 4.

[11.06.09] Kim Dongwan, Jang Woo Hyuk, Lee Hyun Woo are all UFO eyewitnesses?

Singers Kim Dongwan, Jang Woo Hyuk and Lee Hyun Woo were all revealed to be UFO eyewitnesses on the 8th June episode of MBC’s Radio Star, where they shared their personal UFO experiences.

Lee Hyun Woo said, “When I was living in Ilsan, there was a park beside a power plant. I was sitting on a bench in the park and looking up at the sky when I spotted a red light that wasn’t moving. I was staring at it and wondering what it could be when it suddenly disappeared.”

Kim Dongwan then explained his experience. “I was taking continuous shots at an amusement park near Mount Fuji in Japan and I found that I captured an UFO in one of the shots.”

Jang Woo Hyuk shared his story, “I took a video of the full moon once and upon checking the video afterwards, I discovered that I had captured an UFO passing by.

Upon hearing all their stories, the MCs remarked to the amusement of all on the set, “Is Lee Hyun Woo’s UFO account just a case of presbyopia?”

[11.06.09] Kim Dongwan, “I was close to Kim Tae Hee when she wasn’t famous yet, but we’ve cut off contact now”

Kim Dongwan said that he is no longer in contact with Kim Tae Hee.

On the 8th June episode of MBC’s Radio Star, when talking about the relationship rumours of guests Kim Dongwan, Jang Woo Hyuk and Lee Hyun Woo, the rumour of Kim Dongwan and Kim Tae Hee dating back then came under focus.

When the MCs introduced the relationship rumours surrounding Kim Dongwan, they said, “The rumours about Kim Dongwan back then were really hot topics, from Park Kyung Lim to Kim Tae Hee.”

Kim Dongwan then explained how they got close, “I got to know her when I was hosting the radio show, I paid attention to her debut and I contacted her whenever there was something I was curious about.”

He added, “I knew her since the time when she wasn’t famous yet, but we don’t keep in touch anymore”, much to the laughter of everyone on the set.
