Working hand-in-hand with CJ E&M for the release of their 10th album and their comeback concert in March

Acknowledged as Korea’s longest-running idol group, Shinhwa will soon be making their return to the K-pop world after 4 years.

Working together with CJ E&M on their comeback, Shinhwa will be releasing their 10th album in mid-March and also holding their comeback concert on 24-25 March at the Olympic Gymnastics Arena in Olympic Park/

Shinhwa made their debut in March 1998 and held their 10th anniversary concert in March 2008 before the members went on to serve their military obligations, resulting in a 4 year hiatus.

During the concert, the Shinhwa members had said “We started with six people and we will end with six people” and pledged to meet 4 years later. Now they’re back to keep that promise.

The Shinhwa members have been preparing for their comeback since last year.

Last year, the 6 members personally invested to set up Shinhwa Company, with Eric and Lee Minwoo helming the company as CEOs. CJ E&M is undertaking the distribution of the album as well as the Seoul and Japan concerts. Open World Entertainment, which also holds the rights to the Shinhwa trademark, will be responsible for Shinhwa’s Asia tour.

The members are currently working hard on the recording of the album.

A rep from Shinhwa Company expressed, “From the second half of last year onwards we’ve been requesting for songs from many composers, and the members are now recording for the album. They are striving to bring music that retains Shinhwa’s style and at the same time, in line with the current music trends. They’ll be filming for the MV next month.”

Their comeback concert – with strong support from CJ E&M – will take place on a grand scale, and will feature their new songs as well as their hits. In particular, as the concert falls on 24 March, which happens to be the date of Shinhwa’s debut, the concert will also serve to commemorate Shinhwa’s 14th anniversary.

Shinhwa will officially kickstart their promotional activities once the last member Lee Minwoo completes his military service in early March.

Shinhwa is also slated to hold a press conference on 5 March, where they will release details of their album and Asia tour.

Shinhwa Company’s official Twitter account has just been launched, while a large banner reading “Shinhwa, we keep our promises” will be put up on Gangnam-daero (Gangnam Avenue) on the afternoon of 27th Jan.

A Shinhwa Company rep explained, “The meaning behind this is to signify that the members have kept the promise they made to their fanclub Shinhwa Changjo at the 10th anniversary concert, that they will be coming back.”

He added, “Although many idol groups have emerged, as a group that has gone on for more than 10 years without any change of members, Shinhwa’s comeback will be even more meaningful.”

[12.01.27] Lee Minwoo to be discharged from military service on 2 March

The date for Shinhwa member Lee Minwoo’s official discharge from military service has been confirmed.

According to several industry insiders whom Star News spoke to, Lee Minwoo will be discharged from military service on 2 March. Lee Minwoo has been deployed as a public service officer with Seoul Station since Feb 2010.

With his impending discharge from military service, all of the Shinhwa members will have returned from the army, generating even more interest and excitement among the fans. This effectively kickstarts Shinhwa’s comeback plans in March.

In fact, it has already been planned for Shinhwa to release their comeback album when Lee Minwoo returns from military service. After that, Shinhwa will officially return to their fans after 4 years, with a concert held on 24 March at the Olympic Gymnastics Arena to celebrate their 14th anniversary.

Lee Minwoo, together with Eric, Kim Dongwan, Shin Hyesung, Junjin and Andy, formed Shinhwa in 1998, and have stayed together for 14 years without any change of members to become Korea’s longest-running idol group.

Shinhwa promises to comeback through banners posted all over Seoul

Shinhwa has solidified their promise to make their comeback in March with their fans.

On January 27th, orange banners with the words, “Shinhwa – We keep our promises. 20120324,” in various spots all over Seoul.

The group, who had gone on hiatus after their 10th anniversary concert in order to fulfill their military service, had put up the banners to once again promise their awaiting fans to comeback on March 24th for their 14th anniversary.

In response, Shinhwa’s fan club, Shinhwa Changjo (or “creation of a legend”), also put up banners that stated, “We, Shinhwa Changjo, also keep our promises.”

Back during the 10th anniversary concert while announcing their upcoming hiatus, the six members had promised their fans, “Shinhwa will comeback, we will be with you even with death.”

The members are in the midst of preparations for their comeback concert as well as their 10th album, and working hard to show their fans a continually progressing Shinhwa.

Shinhwa’s Shin Hye Sung releases special solo album, ‘Embrace’

We reported earlier that Shinhwa‘s vocalist, Shin Hye Sung, would be releasing a special albumcalled ‘Embrace‘, a collaboration project between indie and mainstream artists.

The singer had hinted during his encore concert in September that ‘Embrace’ would step away from his trademark ballad style. The special album carries more of a modern-rock flavor instead, a genre that Hye Sung hasn’t delved into since his Shinhwa days.

Im Hun Il (of rock band Mate) directed the entire album’s composition and brought together Walrusmember and the indie scene’s greatest bassist, Yang Shi On, as well as pianist Kim Jung Ahof Dear Cloud, and singer-songwriter Park Asel.

Shinhwa member Andy (Lee Seon Ho) shared upcoming plans regarding Shinhwa activities.

Completing his military obligations to the nation, Andy was officially discharged from the army on the morning of 31 Oct at the DEMA HQ in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. Choked with emotion, Andy shed tears while expressing his feelings about completing military service.

Andy said, “Once the final two members complete their military service, Shinhwa activities will begin. I think we’ll need to work a lot on dancing.” At the moment, Shin Hyesung, as well as Eric and Kim Dongwan who have already completed their military service, have already resumed their showbiz activities, while Junjin and Lee Minwoo will be discharged from military service in Nov 2011 and Feb 2012 respectively.

Prior to this other Shinhwa members had already talked about the pending reunion and group activities, and with Andy’s comments this time round, the fans are in full anticipation of what’s in store. Once Lee Minwoo completes his public service duties, we can expect to see Shinhwa on stage.

During their temporary hiatus, despite the fact that members were either fulfilling their military duties or other showbiz activities, their strong friendship bonds stayed the same and they were viewed as a model example for idols. For example, during his day off, Andy paid a visit to Eric on the set of his drama. Instances like this show that their affection for one another have not changed at all. Unfortunately the Shinhwa members were unable to show up for Andy’s discharge from military service. Instead, Teen Top, whom Andy produced for, turned up to congratulate Andy on his discharge.

Regarding this, Andy said, “Eric and the other members were unable to make it today but it’s ok. We’ve already arranged to meet up tonight.”

Moved by the warm reception from the many fans who turned up, Andy choked on his tears as he repeatedly thanked them.

[11.10.31] Andy, “My locker had photos of Teen Top instead of SNSD”

At about 8am on 31st Oct, Andy was officially discharged from military service at the DEMA HQ in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. Standing in front of the photo wall and facing his fans who had gathered to welcome him, Andy was momentarily choked with emotion and couldn’t speak. After Andy declared his discharge from military service, he was asked about his favorite girl group.

“As expected it was SNSD. When SNSD appears on TV the entire unit becomes noisy. But stuck in my locker were always photos of Teen Top instead of SNSD.”

He added with a laugh, “I have to thank Teen Top for doing so well. In order to monitor what kind of clothes they were wearing and what kind of poses they were striking, I stuck their photos in my locker. The seniors and the juniors looked at me and misunderstood me.”

Present today to congratulate Andy on his discharge were members of idol group Teen Top, holding placards that read “Andy Sarang (love)” and making heart gestures, cracking Andy up. In addition, more than 300 fans from Japan, Taiwan, China and other countries were waiting at the venue with orange balloons in their hands.

After his discharge, Andy will embark on a full-scale Asia tour from early December onwards, travelling to Taiwan, Japan, China and Thailand to fulfil his promise to the fans who have been waiting for him.

On October 16th, Shin Hye Sung held his Japanese concert, ‘Shin Hye Sung 2011 Japan Tour – The Road Not Taken Act III‘, and confirmed an official comeback date for legendary group, Shinhwa!

Shin Hye Sung revealed, “On March 24th of next year, the six members of Shinhwa are planning to get together to put out another album and perform. We’re currently meeting up frequently to share our opinions and ideas.”

He continued, “I’m also planning to release my own album in Korea this winter. It will be one filled with songs of my musical color. Please give much love for both my album and Shinhwa’s upcoming release.”

Shin Hye Sung kicked off his concert with “Awaken” and went on to perform songs like “Tick Tock“, “Think About It“, and “Don’t Love Somebody Else“. He also captivated his 5,000 member audience by performing songs off of his original Japanese album, “Find Voice in Song“.

Brown Eyed Soul‘s Youngjun was also invited as a special guest, and together they sang their duet, “A Bit Closer”.

Concluding the concert, he stated, “I’d like to genuinely thank my fans for always responding so passionately. I’ll be working with many great musicians to continue to improve as an artist.”

Shinhwa’s Andy returns from the military

On October 31st, Shinhwa‘s Andy concluded his two-year military duties and was welcomed back by a large group of fans.

He was dropped off by his fellow celebrity soldiers Lee Jun Ki, Lee Dong Gun, Park Hyo Shin, andLee Wan at the Yongsan military PR center in Seoul.

As a member of Shinhwa, Andy was the only member to serve in active duty: Kim Dong Wan, Eric,Jun Jin, and Lee Min Woo all served or is currently serving as a public service personnel. With Andy finishing his duties, all Shinhwa members, excluding Jun Jin and Lee Min Woo, have successfully finished their military services. Jun Jin is scheduled to finish his duties in November, and Lee Min Woo is scheduled for February.

Andy stated with anticipation, “I’m happy, but I’m also worried about how I will be active in the industry. I think if I do as much as I did in the military, the outcome will be good.”

When asked about Shinhwa activities, Andy replied, “We plan on starting as soon as Jun Jin and Lee Min Woo finish their service. I think I have to practice much dancing.”

Andy, who started his services in January of last year, was placed in the Defense PR center and appointed the MC of the ‘Entertainment Train‘ stage and of the military broadcast program. Meanwhile, starting December, Andy will be touring Asia to hold fanmeetings in order to greet his fans after a long-awaited two years. He will start in Korea and travel to Taiwan, Japan, China, and Thailand.

[11.08.30] Kim Dongwan broke up with his girlfriend because of ‘Hedwig’

Shinhwa member Kim Dongwan (32) and the actor Kim Dongwan are two different people altogether. Although he’s an idol star with the popularity that has hordes of fans running after him, when one meets him as an actor, he is all seriousness. After completing his military service late last year, he chose to work on the musical ‘Hedwig’ and the drama special ‘The Vertex’. He challenged himself with ‘Hedwig’, the transgender role that’s not easy even to veteran actors, and then went on to play the independence activist and poet Lee Yuk-sa in the Liberation Day drama special ‘The Vertex’. The route he has chosen to take can’t get any further from the recent trend of idol stars playing the male leads in sweet romantic plots. “I like the expression ‘actor of life’. It’s not wrong to say that acting should be natural like living. This year, my goal is to complete the outline of the actor Kim Dongwan.” With his shock confession about breaking up with his girlfriend, whom he dated for a short while, because he was too focused on the musical, shows that he has completely gone into ‘actor mode’.

Q: ‘Hedwig’ and ‘The Vertex’ are difficult projects. How did you come to the decision (to work on those projects)?
A: I chanced upon these two projects after I completed my military service and had a thirst for acting. I was even more attracted because these two characters are strong and difficult to portray. As much as it was difficult, I was looking forward to the opportunity for me to grow and develop. Of course it was difficult. I’m just thankful that the opportunity came my way.

Q: You played a transgender in ‘Hedwig’.
A: Actually in my acting projects so far, bits and pieces of Kim Dongwan come through every now and then. But in ‘Hedwig’ I can’t show even one second of myself. Because he’s a transgender. His gestures, expressions, how he blinks, all these have to be done like a woman. I put in so much effort that even though the performance has ended, I sometimes get shocked when I find myself still moving like a woman. Moreover men usually sit with their legs apart, I was like that too but after ‘Hedwig’ I often sit in a coquettish manner with my legs together.

Q: You played the role of the poet Lee Yuk-sa. Were you interested in poetry or history to begin with?
A: No. I didn’t have much interest in poetry and when I was still studying my least favorite subject was history. Although I know the name ‘Lee Yuk-sa’, I didn’t quite know who he was. At first I was attracted by the interesting script. As I was acting I realised, “This is how you learn about history”. It would be an exaggeration to say that I’m conscious of history but I will think about why future generations must know about history. Because we have to know about the people who protected the way we live now and we have to live with dignity.

Q: You seemed to have become more serious than you did before you went to the army.
A: Rather than becoming more serious, I think I’ve become less impetuous. I take things more easily too. Even if I see injustice I control my anger better than before. Haha. Before going to the army I was always impatiently thinking that I have to achieve something quickly. But after completing my duties I can’t achieve anything if I’m impatient. The fundamentals are the important things. So when I have time, I read and I travel, and I think about things a lot.

Q: During the filming of the drama, did your colleagues see you differently because you’re the singer Kim Dongwan?
A: No. It was like that in the past, but now they see me as their colleague. When I was filming for ‘The Vertex’, the feeling of camaraderie was even stronger. Compared to miniseries, one-act dramas are filmed under even harsher conditions. Perhaps because we all have to overcome the difficult filming together, everyone treats me with ease as a fellow actor.

Q: I can feel that your ambition for acting has become stronger.
A: This year I would like to be recognized as an actor. That’s also why I chose to work on ‘Hedwig’ and ‘The Vertex’. I’m at an ambiguous age right now. I’m not a newcomer and it’s been some time since I started acting. It’s strange for me to take on a young idol role too. I have no other way than to rely on my acting abilities.

Q: You’re a big senior among the idols. Thoughts of yourself back then must surface when you look at the idols these days.
A: When I see the juniors I think to myself, “It was really hard for us then”. Haha. Although we suffered because we didn’t get to sleep, there are more fun memories than difficult ones. Actually back then we’d take time off from our schedule to go out to drink and play. Things like work were instead like the remaining stuff.

Q: You’re already in your 30s. It should be time to think about marriage.
A: I want to get married at 35, and have a child born in the Year of the Goat, like myself. But I don’t even have the time to meet girls. To be honest before taking on ‘Hedwig’, for a short while I was dating someone I was introduced to. But because I was too focused on the musical, we drifted apart, and things naturally ended.

Q: I also hear that Shinhwa will be making a comeback next year. It’s already been 13 years, what’s the secret to the group’s longevity?
A: The members are all hot-tempered so we fought a lot. But we’re also impetuous people who can’t hide things so we’d just meet and work things out. The most important thing is not to take sides. We aren’t people who think highly of ourselves and try to split the group. Looks like that’s why we haven’t split. Haha.

Q: Shinhwa Company has been established too.
A: It’s a company that belongs to us, where the members are the major shareholders. President Mun Jung Hyuk (Eric) has worked very hard. We don’t know if the company will turn out well. Maybe we might even fight from the start. Even so, with Eric’s leadership, I think things will go well. I smile just thinking about our activities next year. It’s going to be really interesting. Not too long ago, Junjin and I were just saying, “As Shinhwa, let’s not just make do with things, we have to play like we’re crazy.

Q: What are your plans for the rest of the year?
A: Before starting on Shinhwa activities, I’m thinking of doing another acting project. I’m mulling over a few drama scripts now. I want to act about life. It will even better if it’s a drama like “Three Families Under One Roof” (an MBC morning drama that ran from 1986 to 1993), that talks about the lives of ordinary people.

[11.08.26] Kim Dongwan, “My goal is to get married in 2 years’ time”

Singer Kim Dongwan shared his worries with Osen in a recent interview, “I would like to get married in 2 years’ time, but I’m worried about whether I’ll meet a nice girl.”

“After I get married at 35, my next goal is to have a child born in the Year of the Goat, when I’m 36. Lately my biggest worry is whether I’ll meet a nice girl. As I get older, I become more picky instead, and I’m also worried about whether I’m a good man that nice girls want to meet.”

Sharing his difficulties, he added, “Actually privacy is very important to me, and I prefer work to love. I’m more like a cho shik nam* (herbivore guy) who enjoys things like having meals cooked for me. When I do surveys, the results indicate that I’m a cho shik nam. Even if I’m in a relationship, I’m a “boyfriend who’s like a sister”, I have a lot to talk about and I share very minor details. I try to change but I’m born with a character that’s hard to change.”

Since young, his ideal type has always been “girls who are likable”. He said with a laugh, “Rather than a girl with a distinct personality whom everyone finds pretty, I prefer a girl who leaves a good impression, without double eyelids, who’s a little indistinct. But lately I haven’t had the opportunity to meet girls. I get recognized so it’s not easy to go on blind dates either, I really don’t know what to do.”

Kim Dongwan recently played the poet Lee Yuk Sa in the MBC Liberation Day drama special “The Vertex”, and has earned praise for his sensitive portrayal. He is also wrapping up a successful run of the musical “Hedwig” in which he plays the titular character. He will continue with acting activities in the 2nd half of the year, and will make a comeback next spring as part of Shinhwa.

I hope you will keep this thought in mind and support Yeseul. From my perspective, Yeseul isn’t the only actress, and honestly I’m not scared of the powerless salaried on-set staff either. I only wanted to highlight the standpoints of the cast members and staff who are of a lower level compared to the lead actress, and clarify the groundless accusations against them. Although Ye Seul did make a mistake, but since no one can be perfect I hope as a fan you can be her source of strength right til the end. For me, at today’s gathering I plan to speak to her in private and give her a harsh lesson as her oppa, and just like before I’ll accept her again. Since she’s already back, even on the set the staff won’t be looking at her in a bad light. All has been cleared up. The upper echelons at the TV station and the production company, unlike us, is another story altogether. I hope that you can see this incident simply as a girl who made a mistake, had an argument with the people around her who were upset and then resolved things; and that this won’t be exaggerated and misunderstood. ‘Spy Myungwol’ has encountered many ups and downs, and ratings are very low, but everyone on the set, including Ye Seul, will once again work hard together to make it work. The reason is because of the people, even though there may not be many, who love and watch the drama. We hope there will be no more disruptive rumors made by external parties, to keep us all going strong.

Ps– This is all for the disagreement and reconciliation in this incident, and I hope it won’t be brought up anymore. I’m sorry but I have to retweet this again. Any further misunderstanding and speculation will only serve to dampen the morale of Yeseul – who has returned with a heavy heart – and the other cast members and staff who have decided to accept her and move on. Han Ye Seul’s management agency Sidus HQ announced Tuesday that the actress will return to Korea on Wednesday, to complete shooting the remaining episodes of the Korean Broadcasting System’s (KBS) drama “Spy Myung Wol”, reported Korean media.

Han had earlier refused to attend shoots for the drama and travelled to Los Angeles, leaving KBS without new episodes to air and her co-stars in limbo.

Sidus HQ said in a media statement that “the intense shooting schedule for the show left Han Ye Seul exhausted in both mind and body” and explained that actress’ judgment was clouded by her exhaustion, causing her to up and go midway through production of the show.

It added that Han did not expect the problem to get out of hand and has decided to return to Korea, in order to finish shooting the currently airing drama.

“Spy Myung Wol” Executive Producer Lee Kang Hyun expressed that Han must prove her sincerity if she is to come back to the show.

“Even if Han Ye Seul returns, she must first officially apologise to her colleagues and the production staff as well as promise this won’t happen again.

“Whether her return is accepted hinges upon whether next week’s scheduled shoots … are carried out as planned without further disruptions,” said Lee, who revealed that KBS has arranged for another actress to replace Han if things do not work out.

“Spy Myung Wol”, which revolves around a beautiful North Korean spy who falls in love with a South Korean pop star, has suffered poor ratings so far and has been panned by critics for its improbable plot.

Interestingly, the latest episode of enjoyed a 1.6 percent increase in viewership ratings amidst the controversy triggered by Han’s departure.

This improvement in its ratings has sparked speculation among Korean netizens that the whole incident was nothing more than a publicity stunt to boost the ratings of the ailing show.

Eric (Mun Jung Hyuk) has proposed a dinner gathering for his fellow cast members and production team of “Spy Myungwol”, which he is currently starring in.

A top-level manager from Eric’s management company told Star News on 17th Aug, “Eric suggested a dinner gathering for the ‘Spy Myungwol’ team, which has been facing many difficulties lately. So since this morning I’ve been calling up the cast members and staff of the drama to push ahead with the gathering. Since there’s no filming today it would be a good day to hold the gathering.”

He added with a laugh, “Of course it’s Eric’s treat. Up until now the ‘Spy Myungwol’ team hasn’t been able to gather for a meal yet, and we hope that everyone will have an enjoyable time today.”

Eric made the suggestion of the gathering in the hope that the cast and crew can put the recent incident behind them and embark on filming with enthusiasm when Han Ye Seul returns to the set on the 18th.

KBS held an emergency press conference on the 16th at their broadcast station, to address the issue of Han Ye-seul’s departure from Monday-Tuesday drama Myung-wol the Spy.

Presiding was KBS’s drama department chief, Go Young-tak, as well as other executives EP Lee Kang-hyun and CP Jung Sung-hyo.
Their official stance was that Han acted “irresponsibly” and independently, in such a way that they can’t tolerate the reason for her actions. Go stated that the station “cannot accept that she refused to shoot based on discord with producers.”
Go called Han’s reasons for leaving the drama — the killer schedule and the late, piecemeal script deliveries — “an excuse” because “Myung-wol the Spy‘s schedule is not more arduous than other dramas.”
He denied that the drama was behind schedule or putting out script pages late. The scripts were released in bound form, not loose pages (loose pages is what happens when they’re so behind that the writer churns out pages rather than full scripts at a time). (Note: There were previous rumors that the drama was already in loose-script mode.)
CP Jung confirmed that Han made the request early on for a five-day workweek and stated that they made concessions to reduce her schedule and let her out of shoots to film CFs, but also stated that the reality of live-shooting dramas requires the lead actress to shoot long hours.
CP Jung added that Han didn’t want to act with certain actors, and scripts were revised when she didn’t want to do physical gags. “We did everything she asked.”
CP Lee said that he spoke with Han on the phone on the 13th, who said that the producers were ostracizing her on set. Lee told her that it didn’t make sense for producers to alienate their leading actress, and that they were probably just upset that she was late.
Lee added that Han had a positive reaction prior to the broadcast. “However, after seeing Episodes 1 and 2, she seemed dissatisfied with the result, which didn’t live up to her expectations. She also had complaints about her character, such as the physical gags and the personality that was limited to cheerfulness.”
KBS stated their intention to see the drama through the end.
A new actress will be brought in to replace Han if necessary.
Go added, “Actually, KBS was waiting for Han Ye-seul to return through it all. If she returned by Sunday night, the Monday broadcast would have been possible, and if she returned Monday the Tuesday broadcast would have been possible. Even now, although we don’t expect that she’ll return to Korea, if she were able to film Episode 13 and the situation could continue as planned, we would consult with the production company. If that’s the best [Han could offer], we would choose it.”

Other points:

As of the 15th, less than 50% of this week’s intended episodes had been filmed.
Monday’s episode was pre-empted for a (pointless) special, which was basically the drama’s first 10 episodes condensed into the hour in an extended highlight reel.
The drama resumed shoots on the 16th with the other cast members. Apparently they intend to air an episode as scheduled for Tuesday evening. (How they will manage that, I have no idea.)
Han’s early-morning arrival in LA on the 16th was confirmed, and she spoke with an SBS program, Entertainment Tonight upon her arrival to say, “I left everything behind. I hope that as a result [of my departure], the other actors will be able to film in a better environment.”
Production company Lee Kim Productions has stated its intent to go after Han for civil and possibly also penal suits.
Han’s own agency, Sidus HQ, also plans to sue for damages, in conjunction with the producers.
Advertisers are also likely litigants; some of the companies she has been contracted to endorse have also expressed the possibility of filing lawsuits.
The fate of Han’s next movie, Penny-Pinching Romance with Song Joong-ki, is unclear. The film completed shooting a few months ago and is currently scheduled for a fall release.
Rumors are therefore rampant that Han intends to retire. Chances are, that choice is out of her hands now.

We would like to make a statement as the production company of KBS’s ‘Spy Myung Wol’ regarding actress Han Ye Seul’s behavior on refusing to film and making inexcusable absences.

On August 15th, the episode originally scheduled to air was instead replaced by a special highlights reel. The reason that such an event had to occur was because of actress Han Ye Seul’s refusal to show up for filming, which in turn, caused a delay in every other schedule.

During the drama’s production process, Han Ye Seul made requests that asked for the script to be edited in her favor in addition to schedule changes. She was also late several times, but each time, producers worked with patience to communicate with her on a level that would allow the film set to run smoothly.

Despite their efforts, Han Ye Seul refused to film and cut off communication by disappearing, making it impossible for co-stars and staff to continue filming for the drama.

The set had many actors and staff who were preparing to film, but ultimately had to wait for long periods of time in severe rain. Having anticipated Han Ye Seul’s arrival, they couldn’t help but feel empty after hearing that she had left overseas. Because of one person’s rash decision, the situation has escalated to such unfortunate heights, making it impossible for the drama to stay on schedule.

We trust that as an actress with 10 years of experience, she would have known the consequences of what happens when an episode is canceled due to inadequate footage. Despite knowing such facts, she left the set without any sense of responsibility for her actions, and we can’t help but criticize her wrong-doings. Even during the exact moment she left Korea, many junior and senior co-stars as well as staff remained at the scene, waiting for her return.

We would like to emphasize that there is absolutely no justification for Han Ye Seul’s actions. Refusing to film is an irresponsible act that not only breaks her promise with the viewers, but is incomprehensible by her fellow co-stars and staff.

Co-star Eric in particular had a lot of hopes for this drama, since it is his first project after he returned from his military service. Like Han Ye Seul, he too had a tight schedule, but still managed to work through it.

After the fifth episode, Han Ye Seul began making countless requests to cut down her scenes, forcing Eric to take on more than he had to. Still, he held it in and worked through them, knowing that it was his duty as an actor.

Not only that, but Eric also played the role of mediator between Han Ye Seul and the producers whenever she showed signs of refusing to film. It was Eric who persuaded her to return and made the extra effort to ensure that the film set was running in a positive environment.

Unfortunately, Han Ye Seul’s irresponsible actions have turned the efforts of her co-stars and staff into a complete waste.

Furthermore, because of her refusal to film and her inexcusable absences, our production company has met with severe damages and losses, all of which is the fault of Han Ye Seul.

We express our pity towards Han Ye Seul who made a decision that’s unfitting for a public figure, and would like to inform you that we have taken civil and criminal actions against her to recover from the damages we are currently suffering from.

We would like to once again apologize for having to air a special reel in place of the next episode of ‘Spy Myung Wol’.”

KBS2 drama “Spy Myungwol” may continue without a female lead.

The drama, which has been halted with the disappearance of lead actress Han Ye Seul, may continue without a female lead instead of getting a replacement. A member from the production team said on the 16th, “We may carry on with the broadcast without a female lead. There are plans to have Han Ye Seul’s character killed off with her final death scene at the end of Episode 10 and carry on with the rest of the drama.” On the night of the 15th, the producer had instructed several cast members to stay on standby as there is a lot more footage required than expected.

Episode 10, aired last week, showed Myungwol (played by Han Ye Seul) acting out a death scene in the fictional movie “Shiri 2″. Another crew member added, “The original storyline was to have Han Ye Seul’s character rise to stardom after her successful role. But with Han Ye Seul leaving the production, it won’t actually be easy to find a replacement actress and we hope for the viewers’ understanding to kill off the character and carry on.”

[11.08.16] KBS to replace Han Ye Seul with another actress for “Spy Myungwol”

KBS has made the decision on 15th August to replace the leading actress of the Mon-Tue drama “Spy Myungwol”.

According to a rep, the KBS drama division held an emergency meeting and decided to bring in a new character to replace Han Ye Seul’s lead character for the rest of the drama.

The rep told Star News, “The decision has been made to replace the female lead. No concrete details have been confirmed as of now.”

Meanwhile Han Ye Seul had refused to show up for filming on the 14th due to conflicts with the director over scheduling issues, and left the country for the United States on the 15th.

Han Ye Seul, who ignited a controversy with her refusal to turn up for filming for the drama “Spy Myungwol”, has made a shock departure for the United States.

Han Ye Seul was seen by airport passengers as she passed through the departure gates of Incheon Airport at about 2pm on 15 August with a male partner

According to an airport rep, Korean Air flight KE0017 departed for LA at 3pm today. It’s not clear as of now whether Han Ye Seul is returning to her parents who are currently staying in LA.

A rep from Lee Kim Production told Sports Donga, “We just heard about Han Ye Seul leaving the country from the other production team members, and we’re in the midst of verifying the information. We will clarify our stand once we verify the information.”

“Spy Myungwol” star Eric has been on standby for filming for the past 16 hours. He is unable to have a good sleep and is just waiting to film. The filming scheduled for 15th August has been cancelled as female lead Han Ye Seul has refused to participate in filming on 14th and 15th August. With the drama close to being broadcast live, Han Ye Seul will have to return to filming as soon as possible.

Eric has been on standby since 7pm on 14th August, and did not sleep or change out of his costume as there was still a possibility of resuming filming.

A rep said, “Eric has been waiting for more than 16 hours now. We don’t know what sudden calamity has befallen him.”

A rep from the production team also added, “Eric is having a hard time being caught between Han Ye Seul and the director. He has tried seeing things from the director’s perspective and tried his best to comfort Han Ye Seul who’s having a hard time. Being caught in the middle, he has done what he could.”

“This is Eric’s comeback drama and it’s very important to him. It’s not that he doesn’t understand the perspectives of Han Ye Seul and the director, he just hopes that both parties can reach a compromise so that filming can resume as soon as possible.”

Production company may take legal action against Han Ye Seul if she does not participate in filming

KBS 2TV Mon-Tue drama “Spy Myungwol” is facing a possible cancellation of its 15th episode this week due to leading actress Han Ye Seul’s refusal to participate in filming.

Han Ye Seul did not turn up for filming on the 14th and as of 8am this morning, she has yet to appear at the set. As less than half of the scenes required for this week’s episodes have been filmed, there is a growing possibility of this week’s episodes being cancelled.

KBS stated that they will decide on the morning of 15th Aug whether or not to proceed with the episodes. Although the team will try their best to edit the completed footage such that the episodes can be broadcast as scheduled, if things don’t work out, the contingency plan is to put together the highlights from the episodes aired so far into a special episode.

According to the production company and KBS, Han Ye Seul has been having conflicts with the director and after a public spat with the director on the set on the 13th, requested the production company to change the director. Since then she has not showed up for filming.

The production company and KBS had a marathon meeting late into the night on the 14th but no conclusion has been reached. The production company had also been trying to persuade Han Ye Seul but to no avail.

A rep from the production company Lee Kim Production told Yonhap News, “Han Ye Seul and KBS have completely different point of views, and there seems to be no resolution in sight.”

The rep added, “Before we talk about who’s at fault, shouldn’t we worry about the episodes not being able to be broadcast as scheduled? It’s shocking how an emotional conflict between the actress and the director is obstructing the broadcast. If Han Ye Seul does not turn up for filming today, we will be suing her for business interference.

Actress Han Ye Seul ultimately did not show up on the set for the filming for KBS drama “Spy Myungwol” on 14th August. She has also stated that she will not be participating in the filming scheduled for 15th August, resulting in the cancellation of the whole filming schedule for the day.

According to a rep from the production company, on 14th August Han Ye Seul conveyed to the director that she would not participate in the filming session and did not show up on the set at all, causing filming to be put on hold as the cast & crew could not complete the scheduled scenes.

The rep said, “Even though there were her scenes to be filmed today, Han Ye Seul told the director that she was not going to film and did not show up on the set at all. In the end the remaining members of the cast carried on with filming, stopping short of scenes featuring Han Ye Seul.”

Another rep added, “It’s regrettable that Han Ye Seul was absent, as we couldn’t complete the scenes that were due to be filmed today without the lead actress. We filmed what we could with the rest of the cast.”

Han Ye Seul has also stated that she will not be participating in the filming scheduled for 15th Aug. As a result, the production team has to cancel all filming, originally scheduled in Seoul from the morning of 15th Aug onwards.

A rep from the production team said, “Due to Han Ye Seul’s withdrawal from filming, we’re likely to run into problems with the episodes for this week. We have only filmed about 40% for episodes 11-12 due to be aired this week. It’s frustrating that she did not show up for filming even though she’s the lead actress.”

talk about being a BITCH... get acts together. you're not the only one being compromised here.......

I understand that actresses are stupid, but while we’re shooting Eric says his lines but she won’t do hers a lot of the time; she says she doesn’t want to do things that make her look funny so she won’t say her lines. She came all the way to far away Mungyeong, turned off her manager’s cell phone, and they just left the set together; because of that the other actors/staff had to put up with a really tight schedule and that made everyone tired. They had to go back to Mungyeong to film that scene. She wanted less scenes with her in them because she’s tired and asked instead to extend Eric’s scenes. In the scenes where she has to appear with Eric together she doesn’t show any consideration for Eric; she just goes in to quarrel with the director. Filming for the drama’s plainly going to be mostly all-nighters and the drama will practically be broadcast live, but she says she wants a 5 day workweek and she also wants us to finish up filming for the day everyday at midnight. We have to build up the Myeongwol-Kang Woo relationship and continue the melo story but she makes Eric look stupid because she doesn’t even try to understand what the script is about. All the news came out because of her but the next day she didn’t even look apologetic and she went around proudly. She never wants to do anything that makes her look funny or bad; in the scene where she had to get hit with eggs she treated the stuntman so badly when there was nothing wrong and she made the stuntman film the scene for her. Sidus can’t control her, so in the articles written against Han Yeseul they made Eric look bad too along with her when he’s trying his best. The atmosphere at the set is great when Han Yeseul is not there but when she comes in, it changes; it settles down. Even when we try to tell Han Yeseul’s staff and the production company about this she just acts as she pleases. If she does it one more time I think I’m going to swear directly in her face next time I see her. I’m sorry this is so unorganized, I’m so mad.

Earlier today, the media reported that Han Ye Seul had refused to show up for the filming of her drama, KBS’s ‘Spy Myung Wol’. Representatives of her agency, Sidus HQ, have come out with an explanation for the four-hour standby she forced onto the cast and staff.

Through Newsen, they explained, “Han Ye Seul is physically not in great condition, which is why she hasn’t gone to the film set yet. As reports said, it is true that she was also late for filming on August 12th. Yesterday, however, filming was scheduled to end at 2 AM but it ended at 5 AM instead. There was another filming scheduled for 7 AM, so isn’t it only natural that she isn’t able to make it?”

According to the representative, the producers of the drama and Han Ye Seul had conflicts when it came to balancing their schedules.

The representative added, “Han Ye Seul will return to the film set as soon as she’s in better health.”

KBS’s ‘Spy Myung Wol‘ has been put on an emergency hold due to actress Han Ye Seul’s refusal to show up for filming.

On August 14th, a representative revealed that filming was scheduled to begin at 7:30 AM KST. As of 11 AM, however, Han Ye Seul has yet to show up for filming.

According to the representative, today’s scenes required Han Ye Seul, Eric, Jo Hyung Ki, and Yoo Ji In. All staff and cast, excluding the actress, are currently waiting at the filming location.

Through Star News, the representative revealed, “Han Ye Seul directly told the director that she is not filming. She has not come to the film set since then.”

The reason behind her refusal stems from her differences in opinions with the producers regarding balancing her other schedules. This isn’t the first time she has appeared late. On August 12th, she showed up at 3:30 PM when filming was scheduled to begin at 6:30 AM.

On another occasion, she left the filming set early, without reason and consideration for the rest of the staff, leaving producers dumbfounded.

One producer of ‘Spy Myung Wol’ revealed, “If Han Ye Seul does not appear for today’s recording, it will impact the episodes to air this week. We have only filmed about 40% of the episodes that are scheduled to go out this week so we’re all just very shocked that the leading female role has yet to show up.”

My take is this: Religion has been, is, and always will be a sensitive issue. Especially when we’re talking about an unforgiving environment such as Korean cyberspace, it always pays to be EXTREMELY careful. Unfortunately for him whatever he wrote has touched some nerves, and as expected Korean netizens are having a field day taking his words out of context.
But no point dwelling on what has been said, and let’s just move on. Twitter is evil. -_-

Eric’s management has made a clarification about his tweets on religion.

In a phone interview with Newsen on 12 August, Eric’s rep expressed, “(The tweet) is definitely not directed at anyone in particular. He has been busy filming his drama lately, and in his physically and mentally worn out state, he wrote a tweet containing some religious comments. This was misconstrued by a netizen and his comments came about while trying to explain himself to the netizen.”

“The episode with the netizen has already come to a close. I hope there’s no further misunderstanding.”

This controversy came about after Eric had gotten involved in an exchange of tweets with a netizen regarding Venerable Beop-Jeong (one of the most respected contemporary monks in Korea) and Christianity.

Myung-wol the Spy gets an extension, sort of

If you hear one source tell it, KBS’s Monday-Tuesday comedy Myung-wol the Spy is getting two more episodes added to its initial 16-episode order. Another source says it’s not an extension, because the drama was always meant to have 18. Yet another says that no, it’s not an extension, because the drama’s length was meant to be fluid from the start, so it’s not that it has been lengthened so much as it has now been decided.

Bottom line: The show will end with Episode 18.

Despite struggling in the ratings — sageuk dramas Warrior Baek Dong-soo and Kye Baek are both performing better — Myung-wol even went as far as considering a longer extension that would have placed it at 20 episodes. The possibility of 20 had been on the table from the start, so the cast’s contracts actually are for 20 episodes, meaning that no additional negotiations were necessary in making the decision.

A rep from KBS stated that the extension doesn’t have anything to do with its follow-up show, action drama Poseidon, although given all of Poseidon’s troubles getting off the ground and the extreme lateness of its casting, I smell PR bull in that answer. Of coursethey’ll want to give Poseidon more time, and it’s not like Myung-wol was doing well enough in the ratings to justify the addition on its own. The numbers have climbed a bit with the latest episode, netting a 7.6%, but it’s still single digits.

As it happens, the timing actually gives Poseidon two extra weeks: With Myung-wol the Spy ending the week before Chuseok, Poseidon will have till the week after that. (Chuseok is one of Korea’s biggest holidays, a big event for family gatherings — and movie openings — during which currently airing dramas are usually postponed in favor of family-friendly holiday programming.)

Eep! I’m enjoying the farcical wacky comedy — and the newest dramatic twist that this week’s episodes brought — but I’m pretty much always going to argue against an extension. We’ve already seen the show recycling some story beats to keep the two leads together, and I don’t want them to increase the number of plot points they reuse. That would take away from the zany charm that got me in the first place.

On the upside, though, the story did take a huge turn at the end of Episode 10, which effectively puts the kibosh on any more plot recycling — the bickery dance is basically over now, and we’re getting to the meat of the romance. I do think there are plenty of story possibilities built into the world that have gotten pushed aside, and maybe now will be the time to tap into those. Like making the North Korean officials (SO weird and funny) more of an antagonistic presence, and heck, the South Korean ones, too. Remember that feisty NSA agent on Kang-woo’s tail? Whatever happened to her dogged pursuit and insistence that Kang-woo’s up to shady deals?

Or, you know, the drama could always just go meta-upon-meta-upon-meta and give Myung-wol amnesia. The idea makes me groan, but then I think of how Kang-woo’s drama-in-drama character gets amnesia, and how Han Ye-seul starred in Fantasy Couple, and the joke potential IS sort of killer. Hee!

Myung-wol the Spy ends September 6, and Poseidon premieres on September 19.

On the way home after filming. Because I have a medical examination in a few hours’ time, I can’ have food, water, cigarettes or even gum, and so I’m feeling a little uncomfortable. Though I can do without these things for now, but the feeling of not being able to have them reminds me of I felt at the training camp, and once again I feel thankful for that free and ordinary life.

I’ve got all 4 parts of the Infinity Challenge Song Festival and I’m aiming to finish watching it all at one shot.
