[08.06.12][news] Junjin on CHANGE: Can he fool Kim Dongwan?

*COCKROACH?! what are you thinking?! we can't expect anything less than a riot when these 2 get together can we.... LOL*

Last seen on Change as the victim of Lee Jihoon's prank, Junjin appears on Change again with a vengeance, this time his intended victim is fellow Shinhwa member Kim Dongwan.

Junjin will disguise himself as a dance choreographer named Chris, at the same time showing off his real dancing skills. He will attempt to impart these dancing skills to Kim Dongwan by teaching him an upgraded version of Dongwan's own boxing dance - the cockroach dance.

Will Kim Dongwan be able to perform the cockroach dance and will he be able to see through Junjin's disguise?

Junjin also appears on a fake special programme where he pits his dancing skills against other dancers. His performance was rated highly by Kang Won Rae (Clon), one of the judges on a 50-strong panel.

But Junjin's real Change challenge starts here, as his father Charlie Park appears as the last contestant who performs a difficult breakdance routine. Will Junjin be able to recognise his own father standing on the same stage?

This episode will be aired on June 15 at 5.20pm.

[08.06.12][News] Junjin mistaken for a parking valet

Shinhwa member Junjin reveals he was mistaken for a parking valet when he was active with Shinhwa.

In the recent recording of KBS 2TV ‘Cider’, Junjin’s case of mistaken identity tickled everyone.

Junjin elaborates at that time, he was busy with Shinhwa’s activities and he wore sports attire with a cap to the game room with his friends to play cards. And when they were done, Junjin was waiting at the car park for his friends who were in the washroom. Just then, an ajjuhma (refers a middle age woman) came up to Junjin and gave her car keys to him and left.

Junjin was flustered and ‘it was too late to get hold of the ajjuhma’, ‘there were no parking valets at that time, and I didn’t know what to do with the key, and before I knew, another person gave me his car plate number and parking fees’.

Curious to know what happened after that the MC asked, ‘so how did you resolve the issue then?’ Junjin replies, ‘the parking valet came later, and so I naturally passed him the things’ and the audiences burst into laughter.

KBS 2TV ‘Cider’ broadcasts on 15 June at 10.45pm.

[08.06.12][News] Andy thanks Solbi for her enthusiasm

‘Because Solbi has been so enthusiastic, I am grateful to her.’

Andy’s image in MBC’s ‘Sunday Sunday Night’ ‘We’re Married’ has gained much popularity and this is due to Solbi’s character that tends to be more outspoken. Andy’s company is thankful to Solbi for this.

A related person from Andy’s company says, ‘Andy is not the kind to take initiatives and if Solbi is just like Andy, they might not have appealed to the audiences. Solbi’s enthusiasm has helped Andy a great deal.’ Also, Andy has appeared in last year’s musical, ‘Music in my heart Season 3’ and has gained much success. Recently, Andy has gotten another role in the musical ‘Polaroid’ that will start in August.

[08.06.11][news] Shin Hyesung to feature on Gourmet OST

(note from the translator) *This is an excerpt off an interview with Lee Eung Min about the Gourmet OST - yep that show is competing with Strongest Chil Woo too. YAH HYESUNGIE, WRONG OST! lol....but rumour has it that Minbong will be on the Strongest Chil Woo OST

Lee Eung Min is the man behind the Korean indie music label Pastel Music, which IMO has some of the best indie acts in Korea, like Tearliner, Instant Romantic Floor and Oldfish....The label also produced the seriously fabulous Coffee Prince OST.*

T: How will the Gourmet OST be produced? Last year's Coffee Prince OST seemed to be more like a project, but it looks like it will be different for Gourmet. Tell us more about the concept behind it.

Lee Eung Min: Tearliner was the music director for the Coffee Prince OST, but we also contributed other tracks. Director Lee Yoon Jung (Coffee Prince) is a fan of our music too. Although we've contributed music for other OSTs before, Coffee Prince was the first drama OST where we were directly involved in the production. After that we did the New Heart OST.

We hope to let everyone know that Pastel Music is also capable of producing mainstream music. Our strategy for the Gourmet OST will be much closer to this idea. We have mainstream artistes such as Lee Sora, Tei, Malo, Shin Hyesung, and musicians such as Taru, Han Hee Jung, Sweet Pea, Fanny Fink and Casker will also be participating.

Shinhwa's Andy will take to the musical stage once again, as he has been casted for the role of 'Kang Jung Ho' in the musical 'Polaroid'. The musical will start its run on 1 August at the PMC Freedom Theater in Seoul's Daehangno. He made his musical debut in last year's 'Music In My Heart', and this will be his sophomore musical project.

After his first musical last year, Andy showed a great deal of enthusiasm towards musicals, saying that "Acting in a musical has helped me a lot for my singing activities". Skills and techniques such as volume control, enunciation were what he picked up from the musical experience.

In 'Polaroid', Andy plays an innocent guy who stands by the female lead 'Seon Young', waiting for her to return to him. 'Polaroid' tells of love that can only happen once, just like a Polaroid picture, and is directed by Seung Jae Joon and composed by Won Mi Sol, both of 'Music In My Heart'.

Andy is currently experiencing a great deal of popularity as one half of the AnBi couple on MBC's We Got Married.

[08.06.10][news] Andy: Didn't think I would get along with Solbi the 1st time we met

Singer Andy said that he didn't really get along with Solbi when they first started playing a newlywed couple on MBC's We Got Married.

On the We Got Married special of Come To Play, broadcast on 9 June, Andy confessed to this under the questioning of MCs Yoo Jae Suk and Kim Won Hee.

The MCs asked all 5 couples if at first glance, they felt that they wouldn't get along , and there were 2 guests who replied yes. Under persistent questioning, Andy and Seo In Young admitted that they pressed the button.

Andy said, "When I saw her on other shows, I felt that she was really different from me, and I was a little worried. But just as the older folks say, married couples will start to become like each other as time passes, and it's true that we are more similar now."

Seo In Young also said, "Crown J didn't look too right for me either, but at that time we still didn't know each other well. Now if you were to ask me to switch partners, there's no way I'd agree to it."

Part 2 of Come To Play - We Got Married special will be aired on 16 June.

[08.06.09][news] Kim Rae Won-Eric-Lee Dong Gun: Pre-enlistment showdown

With the highly rated MBC drama Lee San drawing to a close, the upcoming dramas are already locked in a battle to claim the void that Lee San has left behind.

The 3 dramas to be shown after Lee San are: SBS's Gourmet, KBS2's Strongest Chil Woo, and MBC's When Night Comes - big titles that the 3 major TV stations are banking on.

SBS's new Mon/Tue drama Gourmet has long been in preparation and has attracted a lot of interest, especially after the movie version of Gourmet was released. Kim Rae Won plays the main characted of Son Seung Chan.

Making his appearance as a Korean superhero in KBS2's Strongest Chil Woo, Eric has garnered a lot of attention for his first role in a sageuk drama. Eric plays the title character Chil Woo - a najang by day and an assassin by night.

Taking over Lee San's slot on MBC is When Night Comes, the comeback drama of Kim Sun Ah of My Name Is Kim Sam Soon fame. The drama also stars Lee Dong Gun.

One thing in common that the 3 dramas share is that all 3 male leads - Kim Rae Won, Eric and Lee Dong Gun - will be enlisting for military service soon after these drama projects. Eric was originally due to enlist in May but he delayed enlistment to September for the drama. Kim Rae Won and Lee Dong Gun have also publicly announced that they would be enlisting in 2008.

For these 3 top stars, these will be their final projects before their enlistment. Confirming his enlistment, Eric expressed this at the press conference for Strongest Chil Woo, "It's great that I'm able to work on a sageuk drama with KBS before I enlist."

Thus, for these 3 actors, these dramas are especially meaningful. Who will beat out the competition and lead the pack? The pre-enlistment showdown between these 3 actors is highly anticipated.

[08.06.09][news] Andy: Everyone on We Got Married are just like reporters

Shinhwa's Andy (27), currently enjoying immense popularity as Solbi's reel-life husband on the MBC reality series We Got Married, shared his thoughts about the relationship rumours surrounding Solbi and himself.

In a 6 June interview held in the waiting room of KBS2's Music Bank, he said "It's like a mental battle among the couples during the studio filming of We Got Married. Everyone would be thinking, 'Are they really dating?' They would ask Solbi if we're really dating, and they'd say things like 'why don't you just date since you make such a good match?' That actually adds more pressure on us."

As viewership for the series increases, more surprising antics are coming from the couples during filming sessions.

Not long ago during one filming session, Andy was talking on the phone to another female singer whom he is quite familiar with, but Solbi took over the call and told her, "Please try not to call oppa all the time." That led to more rumours of Andy and Solbi dating for real among fellow singers and entertainers.

Andy said, "The artistes, managers and staff are all becoming like reporters. When the couples act too convincingly, everyone starts to suspect them. I hope that for me and Solbi, we can portray the situations naturally and spend this period of time as good colleagues."

[08.06.09][Interview] T people calls the brand ‘Kim Dongwan’

As our interview with Kim Dongwan, who will be releasing his second album , is nearing, we did a search with his name, ‘Kim Dongwan’ and we got a result of a Brand. And on the site, we found his MV and biography.

‘Kim Dongwan’, a brand? No doubt it was a marketing effort on the company’s part, but we wanted to know more about this ‘Brand’. Shinhwa’s Kim Dongwan, Solo Singer Kim Dongwan, Actor Kim Dongwan, ordinary Kim Dongwan... It is interesting to see all these Brands roll into one person, and he, is looking forward to succeed in his thirties and is working towards it, an ordinary man Kim Dongwan.

T: Solo singer Kim Dongwan and Shinhwa’s Kim Dongwan, are they the same?

KDW: The major difference probably comes from the kind of songs. The kind of songs I sing as a solo, and the kind of songs I perform on stage as a band, even if the feeling is the same. But because of my image and some of my habits, the differences are not obvious. I hope that is okay.

T: Shinhwa’s music and Kim Dongwan’s music, there appears to be some difference.

KDW: Yes. In fact there is a huge difference. For Shinhwa, there is more computerized music, but in my second album there are variations. This is because there is electronic music, live band music and so there are differences.

T: All the attention is put on one person for solo singers; this is unlike being in a band.

KDW: I used to be part of a manufactured group, and even now the manufactured parts are still quite plenty since I'm not a creator, but I don't deny that that it's different for activities nowadays. When we're active as Shinhwa we can see how the group moves as a whole, but for my own solo activities, I'll inject more of my own thoughts and opinions. If I don't work this way, I don't think I'll do it at all.

T: What is the trend of your second album?

KDW: A more electronic style with band music, the title track has been changed several times actually. The title track chosen was based on the producers’ decisions, and for myself, I found it quite uneasy that I wasn’t persistent in pushing for my own ideas. But if I was persistent, I should be producing my album and since I’m not at that stage, I can’t be too assertive. I want to hold concerts more than carrying out promotional activities. But because it is something I can’t do it on my own, I can only take in other people’s ideas and seize the chance to prove myself. I will not insist on activities just for the sake of it.

T: What did you wish for the title track to be?

KDW: It’s the tenth song ‘Someone I like’. It is not a trendy song, or one that is seeking to impress, but one where I can just sing with my feelings, and I’m very satisfied with the lyrics.

T: Singer Kim Dongwan and Actor Kim Dongwan, who will get a higher grade?

KDW: Both will not score because I’ve not done enough, and this is not the right time to be passing scores. In my 20s, I was still in the midst of finding my way. Because I can’t find my forte, I can’t be grading myself but I hope to be doing things that are worth grading when I return from the army. And so, I must give everything a try, and I am grateful for having the opportunities to do so and the fans have been my source of energy, they have given me a lot of help.

T: What do you think the charm of acting?

KDW: I can live other people’s life in a drama, and even if I do not appear in that hour, my story still continues. In that hour, it might not be on me, it can be about my co-actors, or other people through me and it just goes on playing. No matter where, we strive to move other people and that is charming. Additionally, music and acting gives a different feeling where for music, wherever a person is, happy or sad, he or she can be listening to music, and be moved by it. It will be great if my music can do that.

T: A kind man, an evil man, you’ve acted them all. What do you learn after leading those lives?

KDW: When I played the kind man, I thought, ‘Ah, he’s too kind, just like a pabo’, for the bad guy he was ‘too evil’ and so, it seems that I couldn’t really fully sympathise with the 2 characters and I hope I’ll be able to do so in future. In ‘Goodbye Sorrow’, I could made efforts to understand why the character was so kind even though he was in such pain. But when I had to play the bad guy, I just couldn’t understand how a person could be so bad; wouldn’t he feel bad carrying out such evil actions? It was a pity I wasn’t able to understand the character well enough. Hopefully, I’ll be able to play characters without judging them right from the start.

T: What would you want to play next?

KDW: I hope to play a good person. Not him leading a peaceful life, but one full of twists and turns.

T: Is Kim Dongwan a kind person?

KDW: I am kind, but sometimes I can get quite impatient. And I can become very defensive too.

T: Have you already decided which means more to you, singing or acting?

KDW: No. But for acting it's hard. At that time I felt I could portray the roles and I could show viewers what the character should be. But now, I’m not in a rush to go into acting because I don’t feel I can play a role to its fullest yet, and so I hope to lead a normal life during my enlistment, and to observe myself a lot more.

T: You are enlisting this year. What are your thoughts as Celebrity Kim Dongwan and ordinary Kim Dongwan?

KDW: I just hope to be myself. For 10 years, I didn’t really lead a normal life, because as a celebrity wherever you go, you will be noticed and so you can’t do the simplest things in life. Since I have led my 20s like this, I hope to but a pause to it, hoping to return to a regular life, not thinking about the entertainment industry and I do look forward to life after my 20s.

T: Looking back, summarize your 20s life.

KDW: The entertainment industry is a forest adventure, you take risks and you explore.

T: Was that adventure fun?

KDW: Of course. There were a lot of issues, but there were no enormous failures nor success and it seems I was able to lead a more fulfilling life.

T: What will Kim Dongwan’s 30s be like?

KDW: I hope to have a breakthrough, something that everyone will envy me for, and something that is worth me being proud of, that is my target.

T: For the past 10 years, what we see on screen and what we see in real life, are there any differences?

KDW: I worked hard to remove any differences and I think there shouldn’t be any. I did not want to portray an image that was not me. But I do make changes. Like when I lack confidence, I try to change for the better. I hope I can be more self-confident in my 30s.

T: Shinhwa member Kim Dongwan gives people a friendly and approachable feeling; will you hope to achieve an unapproachable charm in your 30s?

KDW: I will not want that for my fans, and it will be weird if I do. Just like what Park Ji Sung has said, before a match you’ll feel like you’re the star. But if everyone thinks like that, it seems a little unreasonable. Think of yourself as a team player. Park Ji Sung’s believes that your mentor is as good as your parents and so when I want to shine, I must put in my effort. Be it in front of the camera of on stage, I must be humble and hardworking.

T: Are there times when you can't get something because people think you're unfriendly?

KDW: A lot, but even so, it’s ok.

T: What are your dreams as celebrity Kim Dongwan and as a 30-year-old Korean man?

KDW: As a man, I will want to get married before 35, form a happy family and as a celebrity, as I’ve mentioned earlier, I want to have a breakthrough, something I will be proud of. An acting dae-sang? Right now I prefer being a singer to an actor so I hope when I’m in my 30s, I will get an award for acting.

T: Hope we will see you with the award.

KDW: Thank you.

[08.06.09] We Got Married: The salvation of "anti" celebs?

Blurring the lines between real-life and reel-life marriage.

The rediscovering of a new image from what used to be an unpopular image.

MBC's We Got Married has used the concept of simulating married life, and through this we rediscover other sides of the celebrities appearing on the show.

The celebrities who appear on We Got Married all already have their own images that they built up over years, and among them there are celebrities who have quite a sizable anti-fanbase or who are the victims of some rather unfavorable opinions.

However, the show has allowed these celebrities to show a more approachable side of themselves.

Among these 'victims', the Andy-Solbi pairing is probably one of the more notable ones. As a member of the longest running group in Korea, Andy has somewhat paled in comparison to the rest of his groupmates in terms of solo activities. However, We Got Married has propelled him to become a popular wanso nam (*a really good guy that should be treasured) recently.

Different from his usual image as the "adorable baby of Shinhwa", the viewers can see him taking care of Solbi, cooking, taking care of household matters and being very courteous to his seniors. This image of "a reliable young man with the right values" is getting extremely popular with viewers.

[08.06.09][article] Minwoo: My Gains and Losses

With the onset of the Hallyu wave, people often wonder: why do the fans obsess with idols who come from other countries rather than their local stars? In my work I've interviewed many Korean celebrities, and it often makes me think, many Korean celebrities don't have exceptional good looks, so what is the reason behind their popularity with the fans?

I placed these 2 questions on Lee Minwoo - hailing from Korea, not particularly tall or imposing, or having pretty boy looks, with small eyes and a cheeky smile - this is what I saw of Lee Minwoo in person.

I have interviewed Lee Minwoo twice, and it was only when I saw him live on stage performing that the answers to my questions began to hit me.

Discarding all exaggerated reports and images of Hallyu stars in my mind, I ask myself, how does this foreign celebrity - in a country when language is a barrier and promotional avenues are limited - manage to conquer so many Chinese fans?

It's clear to see why - having a perfect stage setup at the expense of concert revenue. It's clear to hear why - an impressive music arrangement and production. And of course, most importantly, the talent and hard work of the artiste himself. As we watch Lee Minwoo performing in cool costumes on stage, we can only guess how many days and nights he had spent working in the rehearsal studio!

Whatever the case, he has earned his reputation. Resistance and doubt don't work at all, only continuous learning and creativity rules the day!

My Gains and My Losses

Firstly I wanted to clarify his name in Chinese characters (hanja). In the past in China, 李珉宇 seemed to be used quite frequently. But for his solo concert in Shanghai, the organizers wrote his name as 李玟雨, which doesn't show up a lot on Internet searches. Who better to ask than the man himself? He answers, "Actually it doesn't bother me how it's written, since it's me anyway. As long as you get my initial M right that's ok with me. But if you have to know, the right way to write my name in hanja is 李玟雨!"

Despite the differences in the writing of his name, M and 'Wolf' will definitely associated with him. His 'Wolf' nickname comes about because of his wild performances on stage, and also from his bad boy image, which is well known among his fans. During a particularly romantic audience interaction segment that he replicated from his Japan concert, he brought a lucky female fan onto the stage on his bicycle, hugged her, held her hand and even sang to her as he lay his head down on her lap. Jealous fans screamed and shouted from below the stage, but Lee Minwoo only smiled cheekily and said in Shanghainese, "You're silly".

When asked about his own 'bad boy' image, he continues to smile that cheeky smile but his response is down-to-earth. "That's just a part of my performance, I'm really not a bad boy." Despite having to work through a translator for the interview and getting lost in translation, I was moved by the sincerity in his voice as he said, "I was born into a poor family, and I've experienced some hardship since I was young. So for me, I don't wish to see anyone get hurt in life."

This year sees Shinhwa celebrating their 10th anniversary - 10 years worth of memories and dreams shared by tens of thousands of fans and 6 Korean boys. Lee Minwoo has dedicated the best times of his life to the stage. "The best decision I've made in these 10 years was to join Shinhwa and work alongside these 5 partners." And aside from the group, his own greatest and proudest achievement is none other than striking out on his own and taking on the role as a producer. This gives even more credibility to pint-sized Lee Minwoo, who's well on his way to becoming a respected musician in the industry.

He frankly says, "For the past 10 years I'm really grateful to have received so much love from the fans, but at the same time I've lost a lot as well. For instance, I don't have a girlfriend now, I'm not exactly in the best of health, and despite working this hard I don't exactly have a lot of money!"

Lee Minwoo loves his work and he loves his fans. On the day of the Shanghai concert, Lee Minwoo's mother came along to cheer him on. Eagle-eyed fans recognised her and cheered for her too. The subtle pride that showed on her face was an interesting contrast to the wild and unrestrained performance that her son was giving on stage. For this he thanked the fans, "It's my first solo concert in China, and I'm still a little nervous. Thank you everyone for your support, and I'm really touched to hear everyone cheering so passionately."

The date with him was short, and Chinese fans are missing Lee Minwoo even more. Add to that the unavoidable subject of military service, and the temporary separation becomes an even bigger issue. However Lee Minwoo promises the Chinese fans, "I will come back."

Currently active with the promotional activities for his solo album, Shinhwa member Junjin has admitted to having cosmetic surgery done to his eyes.

Promoting "Handkerchief" last year, the solo singer is back with his second solo title track, "Secret" and has been actively promoting it.

Kim Dongwan expressed, "During the first album, being on stage alone was tiring.. hence, my strengths were not shown."

But Kim Dongwan does not seem to have any confidence, "As for singing, I've gain a little confidence only recently. I hope my solo stage will not disappoint fans."

He was very happy and thank fans for their love. "Although I've been singing for 10 years, there are still a lot that I want to show to fans."

[08.06.06][news] Strongest Chil Woo's Eric, Jeon Noh Min take 7 hrs for 1 scene

Action scenes are no joke.

Eric and Jeon Noh Min of the upcoming KBS2 drama Strongest Chil Woo spent 7 whole hours on one single fighting scene.

The two actors play the leaders of the assassination clan in Strongest Chil Woo - Eric as a lowly najang by day and Jeon Noh Min as a yangban aristocrat, both of whom partake in activities of the clan by night. It's the first sageuk drama for both actors.

During the fight scene, both of them had to leap up to the trees while being strung by wires, and they had to maintain their balance when they landed. In an interview, Jeon Noh Min said "If we moved when we landed, we had to redo the scene. Although I didn't expect the filming of a sageuk drama to be this tough, but it was very fun to be working with Eric."

He added, "There were many night scenes, which meant many overnight shoots. We only get to go home once in a few days, it's even difficult for me to see my wife. When we were shooting in Tae An, there were no restaurants around. Eric and I, we tried to search for a place to eat, but we ended up eating instant noodles in the van."

At the press conference for the drama, it was clear that Eric had put a lot of effort into the drama, "This is my last drama before I enlist for military service in September, so it's very special to me. I went to martial arts classes, and I learnt horseriding too."
