"Original Idol" Shinhwa, celebrating their 14th anniversary is back.
On 30th at 6.10pm, Shinhwa made their comeback appearance on KBS2 "Music Bank", showcasing their unrusted skills which serves as an inspiration to the junior singers.
During an interview with Sports Donga, Shinhwa said "Because of M4 hyungs, we feel at ease. 6 of us return to this stage after 6 years. Although we are feeling nervous, we are excited and happy at the same time. Watching the juniors through the monitor at the waiting room and chatting with them, it is starting to feel real now.
JunJin mentioned "We had lots of practices. We held our concert recently too. Although we completed our performance without any major mistake, Hyesung hyung's injury made our heart ache. But as we are determined to stand on stage, all members are working very hard. We are feeling happy and touched at the same time."
Shin Hye Sung continued "Really thanking all members for doing so well. Although I cant participate much now, I will try my best to recover quickly." expressing his apologies(to fans) and gratefulness(members).
Dressed in stylish suits and charismatically performing on stage, Shinhwa is announcing that the kings have returned!
First of all, it was a 4 long years of waiting, once again we want to thank all the fans.
As we said in the last notice, 30,000 sold out copies of a Special Edition were sold out thanks for the support of the fans.
This, because Shinhwa wanted to keep the promise to their fans. Shinhwa members of course, now really have become legengs with Shinhwa's comeback.
The members have been working really hard along with Shinhwa Company, 'we were all shocked with the good news". May be, these results were possible because of the unity of the harts of fans and the members.
Of course, Shinhwa Company realizes that many were not able to get the new album.
We also were scolded by many fans(?) but we listen.
We are currently discussing producing additional albums and that hasn't stopped.

Shinhwa proves that time only makes their groups relationship stronger and before their comeback performance, the members showed their strong relationship with each other with their group photo. Shinhwa recently released their 10th album “The Return” which has been selling out left and right.
On the 29th of March, they made their first comeback stage on music shows with Mnet’s “M! Countdown” and before the had their live stage performance, the members huddled up and got together before they went on stage.

It had been revealed earlier that Shinhwa‘s Andy would be wearing a belt strap due to a herniated disc at Shinhwa’s 14th anniversary concert. With his energetic performances on the group’s comeback stages on music programs, fans have wondered if his back had gotten better. However, a recent interview with Andy and his group members revealed that Andy has been hiding his pain to prevent the other members from worrying.
On March 30th, Andy and Hyesung were interviewed backstage of KBS‘s ‘Music Bank‘. Regarding his injured back, he revealed, “I’m still wearing my belt strap on concert stages.”
Groupmate, Hyesung chipped in to talk about Andy’s considerate personality. ”With me also having injured my knee, Andy doesn’t show any signs of pain even though he is hurt. I think he is hiding it because he doesn’t want to bother the members.”
In related news, Shinhwa is busy promoting their 10th album, “The Return“, which was recently released on the 23rd.
The Shinhwa members may be as close as any friends can be, but there’s one thing they’ve apparently never done together before: go to a public bathhouse.
Shinhwa recently visited a public bathhouse together for the first time in its 14 year career to shoot the general service channel jTBC’s Shinhwa Broadcast. The members are all famous for their toned and fit bodies, but it was their first time in a public bathhouse because, according to Lee Min Woo, “Hye Sung doesn’t like to wash together.”
The members managed to show they were still as fit and muscular as they had been for their nude photo book several years ago even though they were now in their 30s.
The first episodes of Shinhwa Broadcast had the members play superhero roles in an SF channel, with members taking on James Bond, Superman, Wonder Woman and others, to save the President’s daughter.
The members said about their first shoot, “It was more comfortable than we worried it would be. We don’t have anywhere lower to go. We’ll be writing a new page in variety history.”

Sleeping early and getting up early, that’s basic, and for him there’s no such thing as mixing with female friends at night clubs. Occasionally he puts on his glasses and displays his unique charms as a patriotic intellectual in Korea during Japanese rule. Think you might get bored? Don’t forget, he’s still Shinhwa’s Wit Guy.
Male #2, Eric Tall and good-looking. Just this alone leaves people in awe, but together with Lee Minwoo he also holds the role of co-CEO of Shinhwa Company. Looks and ability, it seems like he’s not lacking in anything. But a guy that’s too perfect puts people off. He said himself that green blood flows in him, and that he taught Korean and English to his pet dog ‘Chamchi’ (Tuna). His 4-dimensional comments only serve to increase his charm. The more you look at him, the more mysterious he seems. The more you know about him, the more curious you become. But if you want to have this guy, you must be prepared to enjoy going to the church.
Male #3, Lee Minwoo A person who’s suited for silver-coloured hair. Very rare. If you see him anywhere, you might smell a subtle whiff of Davidoff Cool Water, with his trademark smiling eyes making him cute yet sexy at the same time. He may seem gentle but when he’s riding his motorbike or when he’s dancing, he’s a man among men, exuding a rugged charm. Male #4 Shin Hyesung He may look cold but he’s as affectionate as a mother bird. But Junjin didn’t just only inherit his looks from his dad Charlie Park. He has also inherited irrepressible talent, so be prepared to get married and raise another celebrity in the family.
Male #6, Andy 32 years old, and has completed his active military duties. But he’s still a cute ‘pocket guy’ that you want to keep in your pockets and bring around. With his exquisite features and smooth skin, he looks like the same 18-year-old young boy during his debut….. That would be a lie, but he does look like he’s in his mid-20s. On top of that, his caring ways towards Solbi, his onscreen wife in MBC’s We Got Married, and his good manners towards his onscreen in-laws, make him the model husband. His autoplay heart dance when you’re feeling down is a bonus.

On the 20th March episode of KBS 2TV’s ‘Win Win’, Shinhwa member Shin Hyesung talked about his regret after being fined 10 million KRW in 2010 for compulsive gambling.
“I disappointed the members, my family and the fans because of my foolish actions,” said Shin Hyesung, as he disclosed how he visited a casino in Las Vegas for the first time during a sightseeing trip, and found himself repeatedly going back after that. He said, “At first I ignorantly thought that it wouldn’t hurt anyone. When I realised that things were getting out of hand, I stopped. But the matter came to light 2 years later, I really regretted it and I really hated myself.”
During the gambling controversy, the Shinhwa members stood by Shin Hyesung, making it possible for him to repent and get through that dark period. He said, “After the controversy happened, I thought it was all over for me, but the members took the initiative to contact me and even made impromptu visits to my home, as if nothing had happened they were their usual noisy selves. This made me feel a strong sense of support.”
Junjin talked about his experiences with panic attacks, which resulted in a difficult period of time for him.
“While promoting the 4th album, the symptoms appeared. No matter how hard I tried, I always felt that people were looking at me in a strange way, and it was difficult back at home due to financial problems. There was a period of two months when I only lit candles at home and didn’t step out, I didn’t eat rice and after eating some meat or delivered food I would only drink soju. I lived like that.”
He added, “I would just worry by myself. For example, I can’t see well in one eye, then I’d worry if I can’t see well in the other eye too. I’d be in the car and think about whether people will come and hurt me.”
“Even now, I haven’t recovered fully”, said Junjin as he shared his difficulties from living with depression.
Lee Minwoo also talked about how the Shinhwa members helped him overcome a financial problem just before the 7th album promotions. As the sum he needed was too big, even the company couldn’t help and he even contemplated going to a private moneylender.
“At that time it was my birthday and Eric called me to the washroom and said, ‘Minbong ah~’ and gave me a big hug, before handing me what he said was my birthday present, which was the money that the members pooled together for me.”
“I remember holding on to the wall and crying. I was thinking, I really met the right people, I am blessed”, said Lee Minwoo as he teared up, feeling bad towards the members and also grateful for their help.
When MC Kim Seung Woo asked the Shinhwa members, “Did you really never ever encounter any disbandment crisis at all?”
Kim Dongwan then brought up the issue of contract renewal, “Each member received an offer from the company for a solo contract and everyone discussed the options without hiding anything from the other members. Everyone was troubled over which direction to go.” (Note: Actually if I’m not wrong it was Andy who said that everyone each received a renewal contract for a solo career. What happened here was Dongwan suddenly said that no, he didn’t receive a renewal offer. I do think it’s the first time the members knew about this because Minwoo and Hyesung looked genuinely shocked and kept on asking Dongwan if he really didn’t receive the offer. Dongwan could only smile awkwardly. )
He went on to describe Eric’s extraordinary loyalty to the group. “At that time, Eric commanded the highest value and received an irresistible offer. But Eric said, I may have received this kind of offer but I can go to another company where we can all receive the same package.”
Eric later described the decision to move to another company. “We were seeing results from our overseas activities and it would have been right to stay at SM for the sake of our future, but looking at the various options and what we were earning for our work, we decided to take up the challenge despite worrying about the risks.” Lee Minwoo also turned down the renewal offer for a solo contract from the company despite their proposal to turn him into “Korea’s Usher”.
Eric touched on the process of drifting apart due to individual activities and military service. “I didn’t become part of Shinhwa to be an actor, and the other members didn’t become part of Shinhwa to start on individual activities. Because of Shinhwa we’ve received a lot of love, Shinhwa is our root and it has to be our core”, said Eric as he talked about how the members gathered together again despite the lure of individual activities.
And personally, one of the parts that really got to me today was when Andy was talking about missing out on the 4th album because his mother was sick and hospitalized in the U.S. He eventually came back to Korea (probably to work to raise money for the expensive hospital bills) and was living a hard life by himself in a hostel, trying not to get recognized and only being able to sleep after drinking soju and taking aspirin.
The MCs asked Andy why he didn’t seek the members out or talk to the members about it, he said, “I felt that my problems are my own, and I only wanted to show the cheerful Andy of Shinhwa.” ㅠㅠ
And throughout the whole time Andy was talking about this, Dongwannie was holding Andy’s hand...
Shinhwa has sold out 30,000 copies of the limited edition of their 10th album ‘The Return’ via pre-order.
Shinhwa’s 10th album comes 4 years after their last album, with the limited edition sporting a different concept and design, and all 30,000 copies of this limited edition album have been sold out by pre-order.
The album, whose offline version will be released on 23 March, features collaborations with producers and songwriters such as Yoon Il Sang, Kim Do Hyun, Jae Chong and Aziatix. The Shinhwa members have all personally participated in the producing of the album.
Shinhwa’s official website temporarily crashed when fans swarmed to the site upon the release of the album photos and the teaser video of the title track ‘Venus’.
Shinhwa Company CEO and Shinhwa leader Eric expressed his gratitude, “With the comeback just days away I’m really glad to hear such good news. We prepared this album with heartfelt sincerity, as this album is our gift to our fans who have waited for such a long time. I think the fans can understand our intentions.”
Liveworks CEO Lee Jang Eon who’s in charge of album production said, “Requests are flooding in for us to increase the quantities of the special edition, and we’re having an internal discussion about it.”
The March 20 episode of KBS’ Win Win will air the second part of the Shinhwa special, but a preview of the confession from Shinhwa′s youngest member, Andy, is already making headlines.
On this episode, Shinhwa’s Andy revealed the reason behind his absence during Shinhwa’s fourth album promotions for Hey, Come On! was because of his severely ill mother. “[During the fourth album promotions] my mother was severely ill and so I had to go to the U.S. The hospital bills for my mother were astronomical. So I came back to Korea but instead of returning to Shinhwa’s dormitory, I lived by myself in a goshiwon (tiny, inexpensive studio flats intended for students).”
He went on to add that during this period he had so little money he was unable to cut his hair and thus walked around in long, unkempt hair and avoided the eye contact of others in case they would recognize him.
“Everyday I drank a bottle of soju and took aspirin so I could fall asleep,” Andy confessed, surprising everyone at the recording.
Andy’s fellow Shinhwa member, Jun Jin also will share on his battle with depression on the March 20 episode.

On the Road is described as a Brit-pop song with a heavy acoustic rhythm. The song reflects on the sacrifices the members have made while awaiting their return, the grateful feelings they hold towards their fans and the long journey the six members have come and the journey they will continue on in the future
Hurts is Shinhwa’s ballad title song and the lyrics were written, and vocally directed, by leader Eric. The 8-beat pop ballad also features international singer Frankie J. The rap style for the song is said to feature a new style attempted by Eric to showcase a new side to Shinhwa.
Venus is a pop-electro song and serves as Shinhwa’s title song. Produced by Andrew Jackson, who has worked with global super stars such as Britney Spears and Leona Lewis, the heavy beats of the song follows the current global electronic trend in music. The lyrics are the revelation of a man’s heart towards one woman.
Red Carpet is another electro genre dance song with a thick beat and synth and powerful vocals. The song was jointly produced by member Lee Min Woo and producer Kim Do Hyun.
Move with Me is a hip hop style to showcase the six members rhythmical vocals and Eric’s rap-writing skills.
Let It Go is a special song gifted to Shinhwa by Aziatix member Eddie Shin and Jung Jae Yoon (a.k.a Jae Chong) from the 1990’s group, Solid, with lyrics written by member Shin Hye Sung. The song features an oriental riff and a simple R&B style beat and talks of a man missing the woman that has left him but knowing he has to move on. From the chorus an electric guitar features prominently, giving the track a rock feel.
Stay has a cheerful rhythm and exciting melody and is said to highlight the various different colors of the Shinhwa members.
Welcome opens with a fresh and vigorous sound to make up a solid and powerful track.
Be My Love is a song that encompasses the soul, funk and disco feel of the 1960’s and 1970’s featuring slick grooves and a sweet melody and disco bass guitar and strings to back the track up.
Re-love puts together a powerful synthesizer sound and hip hop beat to a slow tempo to form this urban R&B ballad. With a heavy focus on vocal harmonization between the members for this song, the lyrics are told from the perspective of an individual to his lover to forget the pain and hardships of their life thus far and to start anew together.
Breathin’ is an electronic pop song featuring a dream-like feel and a modern and mysterious groove.

During the recording for the 20 March episode of KBS 2TV talkshow ‘Win Win’, Shinhwa shared an incident that almost caused them to disband.
Eric said, “We were having a rehearsal for a music program with other singers. At that time Dongwannie let out a loud burp and then said, ‘Eric ah! Why did you burp’ and put the blame on me.”
Kim Dongwan then laughed as he continued describing the situation then, “Our manager-hyung tried to break up our fight and said, ‘Are you crazy? If you’re going to be like this then quit Shinhwa!’ But Eric paid no attention and said ‘Fine! I’ll quit!’ and continued hitting me. I got agitated and I hit him back too.”
Getting thrown into a disbandment crisis caused by the two members’ senseless fight, the other members couldn’t do anything but to watch nervously from the sidelines.
The conclusion of the fight between Eric and Kim Dongwan will be revealed on ‘Win Win’ on 20 March at 11.15pm KST.
Making their comeback on 23 March, Shinhwa is now preparing for the best performance in their 14-year history.
According to a rep for Shinhwa, “The new song ‘Venus’ is a very upbeat track that has a dreamlike feel to it. The members have decided on this as the title track and have completed a very intense dance choreography for it. They have practised a lot for this and they are preparing for a dazzling performance that is reminiscent of their ‘Brand New’ performance in 2004.
Back in 2006, Shinhwa embarked on their 8th album activities with the ballad ‘Once In A Lifetime’, and did not have any promotional activities for their 9th album in 2008. As such, with ‘Venus’, Shinhwa is promoting with a dance performance after 8 years.
‘Venus’ is written by Andrew Jackson, who has worked with singers like Britney Spears and Leona Lewis, with lyrics written by Lee Minwoo. The teaser video released on 19th March shows the members transformed into vampires, searching for the elusive goddess Venus.
Shinhwa’s 10th album ‘The Return’ will be released on 23 March.
Ahead of Shinhwa’s comeback scheduled for March 23, Mnet has unveiled the full track list for the upcoming tenth album as well as the official teaser photos of leader Eric and member Kim Dong Wa

On the Road is described as a Brit-pop song with a heavy acoustic rhythm. The song reflects on the sacrifices the members have made while awaiting their return, the grateful feelings they hold towards their fans and the long journey the six members have come and the journey they will continue on in the future
Hurts is Shinhwa’s ballad title song and the lyrics were written, and vocally directed, by leader Eric. The 8-beat pop ballad also features global singer Frankie J. The rap style for the song is said to feature a new style attempted by Eric to showcase a new side to Shinhwa.
Venus is a pop-electro song and serves as Shinhwa’s title song. Produced by Andrew Jackson, who has worked with global super stars such as Britney Spears and Leona Lewis, the heavy beats of the song follows the current global electronic trend in music. The lyrics are the revelation of a man’s heart towards one woman.
Red Cartpet is another electro genre dance song with a thick beat and synth and powerful vocals. The song was jointly produced by member Lee Min Woo and producer Kim Do Hyun.

Korea’s longest performing idol group, Shinhwa, will not only be making their four year come back to the music industry, but will also be appearing on a variety program titled ‘Shinhwa Show’.
It has been fourteen years since the group debuted, and in those fourteen years Shinhwa has delivered lots of laughs and witty comments on appearing variety shows, but this will be the first time they will be starring in a variety show made especially for them.
An insider from jTBC revealed earlier, “We will start filming ‘Shinhwa Show’ with the conclusion of member Lee Minwoo‘s mandatory service.” Since Lee Min Woo has officially been discharged on March 2, we can expect the filming to kick off pretty soon.
So far, only the name of the new program has been revealed, and the air date and concept is still a secret. Fans are highly anticipating what the ‘Shinhwa Show’ will bring to the table.
A staff from ‘Shinhwa Show’ stated, “We are working hard to not disappoint fans. This will be a program where the members of Shinhwa will be able to display each of their individual charm.”
On another note, Shinhwa will be holding their concert in the Seoul Olympic Stadium on March 24 through the 25th.
Shinhwa’s leader Eric has recently drawn attention for thanking SM Entertainment’s Lee Soo Man.
On March 5th, Shinhwa held a press conference titled, ‘Shinhwa 14th Anniversary Comeback Press Conference‘ in Seoul. As the members discussed the group’s past and future, leader Eric commented, “I thank SM Entertainment’s Lee Soo Man for taking a group of ordinary kids and creating Shinhwa. I also thank Good Entertainment‘s president for taking us in after we left our nest and helping us get to #1“.
He continued, “We also thank our fans who stood by us and supported us for 14 long years. We will continue to be active in the center of the music industry and will lead by example for our hoobaes“.
In regards to their fans, Eric commented, “As our fans age alongside us, I realize that a masterpiece is not created overnight. Our tradition will be recognized as refined elegance. Please continue to support us“.
Shinhwa will be releasing their 10th official album this month. The 11 track album features works by Korea’s top producers, as well as tracks that were created by the Shinhwa members.
On March 24-25th, the group will be kicking off their tour in Seoul titled, ‘Shinhwa Grand Tour in Seoul – The Return‘ in celebration of the album release. The concert will be their first since their last concert in 2008, and the highly anticipated show had sold out all 20,000 seats in 40 minutes.
Member Andy of legendary idol group Shinhwa who recently reunited for the first time in 4 years remarked, “H.O.T‘s Tony told me he was envious, and thanked us for making a comeback.”
On March 5th, Shinhwa held a press conference at M Cube in Seoul to officially announce their return to the music scene.
“In commemoration of our comeback, I sent Tony a text message,” Andy said. “He said he was really jealous, and thanked us for making a comeback on behalf of all the 1st generation idol groups.”
Fellow member Shin Hyesung also added, “Kang Ta also said that he was extremely envious.”
Shinhwa’s leader Eric stated in regards to his individual activities, “I want to become closer with the public through promotions with Shinhwa. My individual promotions are an after-thought at the moment and I will be focusing 100% on Shinhwa activities.”
Eric took a break from the music scene after Shinhwa released their 9th full-length album ‘Run‘ to focus on his individual activities, but has teamed up with Shinhwa once to again to release their 10th full-length album through CJ E&M. Their title song will include ‘electronica’, a musical genre the group has never attempted, and in addition to a brand new sound, they’re planning to return with some fresh new dance moves as well.
In related news, Shinhwa will be kicking off their concert ‘RETURN‘ in Seoul to celebrate their 14th anniversary. Once their Seoul show comes to an end, they will launch their ‘Asia Tour’ starting in April, traveling to Shanghai, Taiwan, Tokyo, Beijing, and more.
Shinhwa member Andy revealed at the Shinhwa comeback press conference held on March 5th at Mcuve Cheongdam CineCity, that H.O.T‘s Tony An had sent him a text message regarding the group’s comeback.
When asked if fellow singers had sent any congratulatory messages for the group’s comeback, Andy answered, “When we announced we would be coming back after 4 years, Tony An sent a text message thanking us for doing it. When I saw that message, I talked to the other members about trying our best to put on a good show.”
Lee Minwoo added, “When articles about our comeback were published, there were also articles about a possibility of H.O.T.‘s comeback, and I thought about how it would be nice if we could all promote at the same time. When I called Jang Woo Hyuk and Moon Hee Jun, they said it was a false report, and I was momentarily disappointed. I think it would be nice if they would comeback and the 1st generation of idols could promote with the current 3rd generation of idols.”
Shinhwa will release their 10th album in mid-March, and will hold a comeback concert on the 24th and 25th for their 14th anniversary since their debut.
