[ERIC'S BACK!] Eric, “I have to annoy the other members now that I’m discharged” (consolidated news)

Eric, “I have to annoy the other members now that I’m discharged”

Singer/actor Eric, who was discharged from military service on 30 Oct, said at a press conference at the Sports Complex subway station, “I’m happy because I can annoy the other members who are still serving their military duties.” (SO SO TYPICAL OF HIM! LOL)

“2 years ago I was the first among the members to enlist, and they were having so much fun annoying me. Now that I’m the first to complete my military service, I can annoy them now and I’m really happy.”

“Especially Andy who has the most work, and Minwoo who has the longest time left, I must make fun of them as much as possible. We’ve been in touch with one another all this time during my service, so I don’t really think we need to meet up specially.”

“I’m grateful to all the fans who have been consistently supporting me since I enlisted 2 years ago, and I will work even harder in future.”

More than 400 fans from Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, Thailand, Canada and other countries around the world were present to welcome Eric back from military service.

Eric enlisted in October 2008 and was subsequently assigned to Seoul Metro to serve as a public service officer, taking care of CCTV monitoring, crowd control and other duties.

He has also decided on the Korean coast guard drama “Poseidon” as his comeback project, and will play the role of “Seon Woo” in the drama. He will start filming early next month, and also has plans to make his comeback to the music scene.

=====================================

Eric makes his return to acting with a charismatic and masculine role in “Poseidon”

Singer/actor Eric, freshly discharged from his duties as a public service officer with Seoul Metro, has announced his comeback drama project.

“I will be participating in the drama ‘Poseidon’, and will be starting filming very soon.”

Eric said that the role he really wanted to play was that of Jang Hyuk’s role in Chuno. He said, “Although this is not a sageuk (historical drama), but I will bring out the masculine nature of the role in ‘Poseidon’ just like Jang Hyuk’s character in ‘Chuno’.”

“Poseidon” is a drama that revolves around the lives of members of the Korean Coast Guard.

Eric: John Park and Heo Gak are juniors who have left deep impressions on me

Shinhwa leader Eric said that John Park and Heo Gak from Mnet’s Superstar K2 are the juniors who have left deep impressions on him.

Making his entrance to the press conference held on 30 Oct at Sports Complex subway station, Eric was dressed smartly in a beanie, a leather jacket and denim jeans, and was welcomed by more than 400 fans from around the world who held up banners that said “Oppa is back”.

When asked about which juniors have left deep impressions on him, Eric replied “Of course John Park and Heo Gak who are hot topics of discussion these days.”

“They already are very skilled singers to being with, but I really liked that despite the fact that they were rivals, they walked hand-in-hand until the end, which is very heartwarming.”

In a video message to them, Eric said, “I’m deeply impressed. Although you may find the going tough as you work hard in your activities in future, I will support you always.”

When asked about girl groups, Eric said that he liked them all, but added wittily that “Since our company has our own girl group, I don’t really look at the others.”

[ERIC'S BACK!] Eric: I was disappointed when fans really didn’t come to visit

Shinhwa’s Eric concluded his 2 years of compulsory military service with a press conference on 30 Oct at the Sports Complex subway station.

Eric gave up his US citizenship in 2000 and enlisted for military service on 9 Oct 2008. He was subsequently deployed as a public service officer at Seoul Metro, in charge of CCTV monitoring and directional services.

When asked if there were any fans who went to the station to look for him, Eric answered to the amusement of the fans, “We had earlier made a request (for fans not to visit), but when the fans really didn’t come to visit I was disappointed.”

He added that he was following the KBS drama ‘Chuno’ very closely. “I want to quickly start work on my next project, and show everyone a masculine appeal similar to that of Jang Hyuk’s character in ‘Chuno’.”

Meanwhile, Eric announced that his comeback project will be the Korean coast guard drama ‘Poseidon’, creating much interest and anticipation.

[10.10.29] Dongwan’s memolog: No matter how hard I try to be honest…

===============================

No matter how hard I try to be honest.
No matter how hard I try to be friendly.
It’s all a lie anyway,
I’m just arrogant and disrespectful.

So for today as well.
To be more honest.
To be more friendly.
I’ll try even harder.

Because there are always things that can’t be done.

Shinhwa’s Eric discharged from the army!

Shinhwa’s Eric (31) was discharged from the army on the morning of October 30th.

Wearing a beanie, jeans, and a leather jacket, he appeared before his 300 fans and received a round of applause for completing his two years of mandatory military service. Placards with ‘Oppa has returned’ were held by fans along with various bouquets and cakes in celebration of his return.

Eric stated to fans and reporters, “For now, I feel very lighthearted. When I was in service, my fans held back as much as possible. I’m very thankful that they’re here for me today.”

When asked which Shinhwa member contacted him the most, Eric replied, “They called me often after work. They were jealous that I was being discharged.” When asked who was the most jealous, he stated, “Andy, who is working the hardest right now, and Minwoo, who went in for service last.

Reporters went on to ask if any juniors had left an impression on him, in which he answered, “I thinkJohn Park and Huh Gak. They both have very good skills, but I especially loved how they warmly embraced each others’ performances all the way to the end despite being rivals.

Eric gave up his American citizenship and was listed to service as an active duty soldier. Unfortunately, after an accident during the filming of MBC’s “Wolf” in 2006, Eric entered public service in October of 2008. With the exception of Shin Hye Sung, all other Shinhwa members are now serving in the army.

Eric will start work on the drama, “Poseidon” soon.

[10.10.25] Liveworks notice: 2010 Shin Hyesung Project 2nd notice

Hello, this is Lee Jang Eon, CEO of Liveworks Company.
It has been a long time since I last greeted everyone.
Through this notice I will be updating everyone with the most anticipated news about Shin Hyesung’s new album
And also about the upcoming projects.

1. 4th Album
The new album scheduled for release at the end of October that we had informed everyone about in our earlier notice in summer
Has been delayed for release, in order to produce a better album and and to plan for a more effective promotion.
We apologize for this and hope for everyone’s understanding.
The new album is now scheduled for release around January 2011, and we are now working hard to prepare and produce an album that will be the first to grab attention in 2011.
We will definitely repay everyone for their patience with a good album.

2. Release of a new single in November
Although the album has been delayed
Shin Hyesung will be releasing a new digital single in mid-November.
It’s a medium tempo ballad that matches the winter season, on which Shin Hyesung is collaborating perfectly with a famous artist.
More details about the track and the artist will be released via an official notice before mid-November.

3. Concert
The dates for Shin Hyesung’s December concert has been confirmed.
The concert will be held on 2 days on 4th and 5th December at AX-KOREA in Gwangjang-dong, Seoul,
And it will be a concert, more so than the others so far, where there will be more musical interaction with everyone.
The venue for the December concert is exactly where he held his first solo fanmeeting.
AX-KOREA is basically a venue for standing concerts, but the arrangement for this concert has been decided to be fully-seating,
And there will be about 1,200 tickets available for presales for each show.
With an acoustic band and a string quartet, Shin Hyesung will be bringing you his own brand of pop that’s suitable for the winter season
Including the new single that will be released in November and his other hits.
This concept is like a preview of the theater concerts that Shin Hyesung will definitely be challenging next year.
And it’s also the beginning of the promotions for his new album which will be released in January next year.
Every Christmas and year-end, it’s not an exaggeration to say that almost all of our country’s artists are all holding concerts.
Given that there are so many concerts vying for attention, there are naturally more difficulties in carrying out an effective promotion campaign.
Thus we decided on an early December concert in order to receive more effective attention from various media outlets.
We will work hard for the new single in November and the December concert, and for the music video and other promotion mechanisms for the new album in January 2011.
It’s been a long time since he has met everyone through a concert, we hope everyone will give your fullest support and participation.
We will inform everyone of more details about the presale of the concert tickets via our official website.

4. Japan
27 November…
There will be a dinner show in Tokyo for Japanese fans.
There are many such dinner shows in our country held on festive days and during the end of the year,
But in the case of Japan, dinner shows with meals and performances by artists are only becoming common now.
This dinner show will feature great food and a heartwarming performance, and it will be held together with a special event on a day special to Shin Hyesung and everyone too.
We will also release more details about this dinner show in an official notice soon.
Shin Hyesung is also scheduled to release a new single album in Japan in the first half of next year.
For the Japanese album released in February this year, due to various reasons promotions were not able to be done in a more effective manner.
For the Japanese single next year, Shin Hyesung will be delivering more effective promotions with a top Japanese label.
More news about the single and the Japanese label will also be released via the official website.

The above has been an update on the confirmed and work-in-progress projects.
It has been reported that winter will be here after today.
Since this morning the air has already become different.
Do remember to put on more clothes, and hope everyone has made preparations for winter.
Take care not to catch a cold.
Although this winter will be very cold but we will try our best to bring warmth to your hearts.
Thank you.

Dongwan’s new blog profile photo!

That’s the kind of face I would have if I just spent the last 6 hours drinking… (which I just did…) If I didn’t know better, I’d think that he took this picture after he got home from a wild night of drinking too…

But then again… It’s always possible since he does seem to enjoy alcohol quite a bit these days… ㅋㅋㅋ

No matter what… CUTE!

[10.10.23] Eric, U-Know Yunho, Kim Kang Woo “only doing a test for Poseidon”

Have U-Know Yunho, Kim Kang Woo and Eric been cast in the drama ‘Poseidon’?

On 20th Oct, a video posted on the official website of the Korean Coast Guard showed U-Know Yunho, Kim Kang Woo and Eric in the midst of training. However the video has since been removed from the website. The video was apparently of the actors in the midst of doing a test, and they have not actually been cast yet.

Reps from the actors’ management agencies said, “It’s true that they were taking a test onsite after receiving an offer to participate in the drama, but the final casting has not been decided yet. The final casting will be decided through the results of the test and by an observation of how well they work with the rest of the team.”

‘Poseidon’ is a 20-episode drama scheduled for broadcast in the first half of next year, and is Korea’s first drama about the Coast Guard.

[10.10.22] U-Know Yunho, Kim Kang Woo, Eric “confirmed for Poseidon”

Korea’s first drama about the Korean Coast Guard, ‘Poseidon’, has confirmed U-Know Yunho, Kim Kang Woo and Eric as its main leads.

On 20 Oct, news about ‘Poseidon’ was released via a post under the ‘Photo Essay’ section on the official Coast Guard website. It “shows the actors cast in the drama ‘Poseidon’ in the midst of training. The actors are now in Incheon receiving training and are doing trial filming around the Silmido area.”

The ‘Poseidon’ cast was selected from a list of actors including Kang Ji Hwan, Jang Hyuk, U-Know Yunho and Hero Jaejoong. ‘Poseidon’ will begin filming officially from 3 November onwards. The director of the drama is Yoo Chul Yong of “All In” and the writer is Jo Kyu Won of “Iris”.

A staff member from H2O, the production company behind the drama, said, “This drama is produced with the full assistance from the Korean Coast Guard, and the writers have spent months on research to come up with the script, which is in turn based on the special duties of the Coast Guard. Using the strong bonds of humanity as a basis, and through the challenges faced by the protagonists and their spirit of self-sacrifice, the drama movingly shows the significance of life and the stories of how people overcome obstacles in life.”

[10.10.21] Dongwan’s memolog: I don’t have a Twitter or Facebook account. (original post + edited version)

I don’t do Twitter or Facebook.
I will not do it in future either…

I don’t like Twitter because it seems to be practising the concept of “not thinking before you speak”,
And I don’t like Facebook because most of the people I don’t like are on it.

Fine.
As I get older I honestly don’t even like to look at the things I hate… Kehaha!

The autumn colors this week.
Where do you think is a good place to go?

EDITED VERSION

I don’t do Twitter or Facebook.
I will not do it in future either…

Cancelling what I wrote just now! After thinking about it I have a lot of friends on it too… -_-;
Anyway I’m not doing it@!

[10.10.14] Kim Dongwan to make his Japanese debut in December after army discharge

Shinhwa member Kim Dongwan will be making a foray into the Japanese market after his discharge from military service.

According to a notice on Kim Dongwan’s official Japanese homepage on 13th October, Kim Dongwan will be discharged from military service on 7 December and upon his discharge, he will be releasing his debut solo Japanese album at the end of the year and officially restart his showbiz career.

Kim Dongwan will be making his debut in Japan with the release of his solo album ‘KIM DONGWAN JAPAN PREMIUM BEST’ on 15 December. This album will consist of tracks previously released in Korea and one new track.

At the same time of his album release, Kim Dongwan is also kicking off a series of live performances in Japan. On 16 Dec at the Fountain Square at Ikebukuro Sunshine City, in Tokyo, Kim Dongwan will be holding a live performance to commemorate the release of his album, and he will also be holding a fanmeeting on 18 December. The tickets to his fanmeeting were all snapped up within minutes after sales channels opened, proving that his popularity has not been affected by his absence.

The notice also expressed, “As a member of one of the pioneer groups to bring Korean pop to the Japanese music scene, thus sparking off the K-pop boom, Shinhwa’s Kim Dongwan will bring the Hallyu wave to greater heights.”

Kim Dongwan enlisted for military service in November 2008, and has been serving as a public service officer at the Seodaemun District Office in Seoul.

[10.10.13] Dongwan’s memolog: Request for rectification.

Note from Sumi: A quick background on this post – there was an article in one of the online Japanese dailies about Dongwan’s impending discharge from military duty and while I have no idea what the article says (it’s in Japanese, so translation will be most welcome!!), I understand from a fellow fan in Seoul (thank you Sharon a.k.a HALOptimusprime :) ), that the article somehow depicts Dongwan as what some may call a “Japanophile”.

Thus, I think this would have naturally upset the Korean fans as there are some very sensitive issues when it comes to things like this… So I suppose this entry from Dongwan is trying to clarify matters and put any misunderstanding to rest…

================================

I’ve filed a request through the management company.
I’m very taken aback too.
Why did they use such a word…
Is this the kind of ‘professionalism’ that touches on sensitive issues?…

Anyway, neither I nor the management company have ever made such references.
What they have said is what they have used to describe Tom Cruise before as well.
And especially since I’m Korean, these people are really…-_-;

Looks like I can’t afford not to be careful.

And also.
I am definitely restarting my activities in Korea.
Although the 2-week event is something that I want to do, (note: I think he’s referring to some planned activities in Japan after his discharge, including his fanmeeting in Japan)
But the recognition that I want to receive
Is always the ‘recognition of the fans in Korea’,
So don’t be angry! ^_^

[10.10.11] Sung Shi Kyung, “Junjin shot me a hideous glare during our drinking session”

Transcript and note from Sumi:

No subs for the vid, but here’s the rough gist of it:

The MCs ask Sung Shi Kyung (SSK) about this rumor they heard from Psy about SSK being able to drink up to 11 bottles of soju, and Yoon Jong Shin says that rumour has it that Junjin’s limit is 10 bottles, and SSK acknowledges that JJ can perhaps drink even more than that, and that he has this uncontrollable desire to win. The caption then reads, “Junjin would rather die than admit defeat”. ㅋㅋ

So anyway, SSK goes on to relate the story and re-enacts how JJ was trying to glare at him but he was blinking involuntarily (probably out of fatigue and intoxication). JJ challenged him to one more glass of beer, but SSK had to stop because he couldn’t take it anymore. So there you go, mystery solved:)

================================================

Singer Sung Shi Kyung shared an interesting episode that took place during a drinking session with Shinhwa’s Junjin on the 10th October broadcast of KBS 2TV’s Night Star.

Regarding the rumor that he can drink up to 11 bottles of soju, he said, “My maximum capacity isn’t 11 bottles (of soju). I can’t drink that much.”

He went on to share what happened during a drinking session with Junjin in the past, “I drank with Junjin this one time and by 6am the next morning we still hadn’t ended. But at that time Junjin shot me a really hideous glare.”

“We couldn’t quite take it anymore but at that time, Junjin said he wanted to have one more mug of beer.”

[10.10.09] Sung Shi Kyung: I had to run away while drinking with Junjin

(info omitted)

Sung Shi Kyung expressed, “To be honest, I can drink very well.” He went on to share an interesting episode that took place during one of his drinking sessions with Junjin, one of showbiz’s most formidable drinkers.

“A few years ago I was drinking with Junjin, and because we both knew each other could drink well, a weird rivalry began to form and we just tried to outdrink each other.”

“There was still no clear winner even at 6am the following morning. Although I was feeling really sick, I had to put on a front and pretend I was alright. Then with his eyes that exuded his fierce desire to win, Junjin said something to me and there was nothing I could do except to get away.”

What was it that Junjin said to Sung Shi Kyung that sent him running off? This will be revealed on the 10th October episode of KBS 2TV’s ‘Night Star’ at 11.15pm.

[10.10.08] Dongwan’s memolog: Let’s go home now (A story of the young and rich)

When I wake up in the morning,
Do I think ‘Ah, I’m so tired’?
No. At that point the important thing is to put some food in my mouth
And get to work.
There’s only one thought on my mind
“Eat something and go to work”
At night if I’m tired while on the long way back home
While resting, do I think
‘For how long do I have to continue repeating this routine? It’s really tiring’?
No.
I stop the car and close my eyes, even for a little while.
So, I won’t think of anything else but ‘sleep, just sleep’.
When I wake up what would I be thinking.
Would I think, ‘I’m really tired. What the hell am I doing when other people are sleeping’?
No. What is the goal right in front of my eyes? Yes, to get home.
‘Let’s go home now.’
Meanwhile, I grab hold of the steering wheel once again.

[10.10.08] Tony Ahn: Andy and Eric are my childhood friends

Tony Ahn disclosed on the 6 Oct episode of MBC’s “Knee Slap Guru” that Shinhwa members Andy and Eric had been his childhood friends since his family emigrated to the US.

When asked if he had any friends from his childhood who have become famous, Tony Ahn replied, “Andy. Since I was a kid, my parents and Andy’s parents had businesses at the same place. We were like brothers.”

In addition, he also mentioned that Eric was also a friend back from his days in the US. He said of Eric, “He was well-known for being a good fighter and for being good-looking. Particularly in terms of fighting, he ranked number one or two in school. He was really popular, and Andy and I were even his backup dancers before.”

[10.10.04] Jo Seung Woo and Eric are coming… Back from military service in October

Actors Jo Seung Woo and Eric will be discharged from military service this month.

The fans of these two hunks who have been patiently waiting for them, are now taking pleasure in predicting their comeback projects.

Jo Seung Woo will be returning to his fans first, with his date of discharge set on Oct 23. Having enlisted in Dec 2008, he has been serving as part of an acting troupe under the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.

Eric, who has been serving as a public service officer, will be discharged from duty and return to showbiz on Oct 30. According to a rep from his management agency, Eric had already received offers from several companies even before he has been discharged.

The rep expressed, “Even before he has been discharged, drama, movie and CF offers have already been pouring in. We are now carefully reviewing the options for his comeback project and will make a final decision soon as to which project the viewers will see him in.”

He added, “After his discharge, there are plans for him to work on both acting and music projects. Between these two, acting will be his main focus.”

With their impending discharge, the musical scene and broadcasters are all getting busy to welcome them back.

(Jo Seung Woo-related info omitted)

Casting rumors involving Eric has not ceased as well. Reports have surfaced, saying that Eric will be appearing in the drama “Love Song”, which was supposed to feature the late Park Yong Ha as the male lead, but as of now he seems to have rejected the role. Eric’s reps have expressed that they will announce his comeback project once he has carefully reviewed his options.

[10.10.04] Consolidated news about Eric and the drama “Love Song”

There are conflicting reports about Eric taking up the lead role (originally for the late Park Yong Ha) alongside Yoon Eun Hye in the drama “Love Song”. Top Class had refuted the rumors that arose sometime last month, saying that the production company was trying to create buzz for the drama, but it seems that these casting rumors are resurfacing. Top Class has not commented on this round of rumors, so let’s just stay tuned for updates. There’s a 3rd article in Sports Chosun which I won’t translate, that basically says that both actors are in serious discussions about taking up the drama.
=============================================

Eric and Jo Hyun Jae to fill in for Park Yong Ha in “Love Song”

Hallyu stars Eric and Jo Hyun Jae are set to replace the late Park Yong Ha in the drama “Love Song”. Eric is currently serving his military duty as a public service officer and will be discharged on 22 Oct. (Note: There has apparently been a mistake made by Seoul Metro on his discharge date – it should be 30 Oct). Jo Hyun Jae had already been discharged from military service back in June this year. Both actors have selected “Love Song” as their comeback project.

Eric and Jo Hyun Jae have recently reached a basic agreement with the production company behind “Love Song”. Verdi Media is already in discussions with broadcasters for scheduling slots, on the basis on the cast of Yoon Eun Hye, Eric and Jo Hyun Jae. “Love Song” was initially slated for broadcast on KBS, but Park Yong Ha’s untimely passing led to a delay in production and broadcast schedules. The inclusion of Eric and Jo Hyun Jae looks set to kickstart the drama smoothly.

A rep from Verdi Media said, “Eric and Jo Hyun Jae are both Hallyu stars and will fill the void left behind by Park Yong Ha. Once the broadcast dates are confirmed, shooting can commence when Eric is discharged.”

Choi Byung Min, director of Top Class Entertainment, which manages Eric, said, “Although we have yet to officially sign the contract, we have agreed to his appearance, in order to facilitate discussions for broadcast schedules. Once the schedule has been confirmed, only then will we start concrete discussions about his appearance”, taking a careful stance of confirming his appearance only after the schedules have been fixed.

“Love Song” is a drama based on the 1997 Hong Kong hit film, “Comrades, Almost A Love Story” (Tian Mi Mi). The drama had already been presold to 11 countries in Asia, banking on the popularity of its Hallyu star leads Park Yong Ha and Yoon Eun Hye. Park Yong Ha’s passing caused a disruption to production and also ignited worries about possible negative effects on the Hallyu wave. However with Eric and Jo Hyun Jae coming onboard, these effects are likely to be mitigated.

=============================================

Yoon Eun Hye’s “Love Song” meets with difficulty
Eric’s reps: “Already declined the role” / Jo Hyun Jae’s reps: “Yet to be confirmed”

It’s rough seas ahead for the drama “Love Song”, based on the 1997 Hong Kong film, “Comrades, Almost A Love Story” (Tian Mi Mi), starring Leon Lai and Maggie Cheung. The drama had already received much attention when the late Park Yong Ha was cast as the drama’s male lead.

Yoon Eun Hye was later cast as the female lead, but production was halted due to Park Yong Ha’s sudden passing and difficulty in casting a new male lead.

The production company is now scouring for a replacement for Park Yong Ha, and especially since the drama has been marketed as a Hallyu star vehicle, the production company is taking extra care to select a Hallyu star.

Candidates who have received proposals include Eric, who’s due to be discharged from military service on 30 Oct, and Jo Hyun Jae.

In an interview with Star News on 4 Oct, Eric’s rep have expressed that they have “already rejected the offer”. The rep explained, “Although we have received the proposal, but we have rejected it after considering the role and other factors. He’ll be discharged soon and has already received several offers for projects. His comeback project will be confirmed soon.”

Jo Hyun Jae’s rep expressed, “Although we have received the proposal, we have yet to decide whether to take up the role or not. We’re looking at several options now, and cannot comment on ‘Love Song’ just as yet.”
