[10.11.30] Dongwan’s Japanese blog: The last vacation.

This time, I stayed at a ryokan (traditional Japanese inn)!
Somehow it feels homely and has a comfortable atmosphere!

I headed out right away

Taking photographs

Eating okonomiyaki

And sleeping… -_-;

This is ‘Ta-ke (bamboo)’ yakitori

This is Ta-ke, a friend from Crossone (Dongwan’s management agency in Japan)~ ^^

My friend who says ‘I’m going to start dieting now’ while eating.. -_-

A cool grandfather in Ginza.

An American in Asakusa,
Who moves when you put money in the hat! ^^

I went to Fuji-Q Highland!

I couldn’t.
So scary…TT

And that was my last vacation!

From next week onwards it will be just work… T_______________________T

[10.11.29] Dongwan’s memolog: UFO?

I spent my last vacation in Japan,
And after returning to Korea, as I was sorting out my photos I discovered a strange object in the photos.
During outdoor photography there are cases where the exposure isn’t right so I often have the habit of taking two shots.
I noticed something not quite right above the aircraft vapor trail.
So I enlarged it a little to take a look.

There seems to be something flying.
I was checking it in a fatigued state. So I thought, it was only a shot of an airplane flying across…

The next day I enlarged it a little more to take a look.
It really looks like a flying saucer…
Even if it was connected to the vapor trail,
The flying object can be seen even before the start of the vapor trail. I’m thinking to myself… Could this be an UFO?
I wanted to take a look at the original copy stored on the memory card so I opened the files,

From L1011749 where I photographed the flying object onwards, the original files can’t be saved.

I checked my camera.
It was reset.
The reset function is not a simple operation that can be accidentally done by pressing the wrong button.
Maybe at the time when the UFO appeared, some kind of strong electromagnetic waves caused my camera to malfunction…
For some reason I’m scared.

Aliens… Don’t come! ㅜㅜ

Tomorrow South Korea and the US will begin their joint military exercises extensively.
Tomorrow I’m having a meal at home with my mother,
And I’ll be going to church, which I haven’t been able to for a while, to pray.

[10.11.26] No plans for Eric to appear on ‘Running Man’

Rumors of Eric (Mun Jung Hyuk) – who has recently been discharged from his military duties – appearing on SBS variety show ‘Running Man’ have been refuted.

There has been much talk on Internet forums and Twitter recently, about Eric making a return to variety shows with an appearance on ‘Running Man’. Netizens were convinced that the rumors were factual as the date and even the venue was mentioned.

With regards to this, PD Jo Hyojin of ‘Running Man’ made a clarification in a phone interview with Newsen on 26 Nov. “Eric has not filmed any episode. Although it’ll be great if he could make an appearance but we don’t have any concrete plans for that at the moment.”

Eric is currently filming for the drama “Poseidon” with Kim Kang Woo, U-Know Yunho.

[10.11.25] Melon interview with Shin Hyesung & Eric: Fans’ questions answered (Part 2 of 2)

Q: Eric oppa and Hyesung oppa, lately there have been many idol groups out there lately, are there any groups that have caught your attention, and as seniors, is there anything that you’d like to say to them?
HS: I think the idol groups these days are all very talented. I’m not looking at just any particular group, but I’m paying attention to all of them. In the past usually only one group member received the attention but these days every member of the group has his/her individual personality showcased through dramas and variety shows. Of course they’re all outstanding on stage, but while individual abilities are important, teamwork is the most important thing. If there is any disagreement within the team you have to work hard at talking things out and become a source of strength and motivation for one another. I think that’s the way to keep the team going for a long time.
E: Among the groups that have only made their debuts in recent years, there are some that have progressed very well, but on the other hand there are also some that have come and gone. Don’t get complacent after you have gained a little popularity, you have to continue practising and working hard so that you will continue to be well-loved for a long time, just like Shinhwa ^^ For me I’m not looking at any one group, but all the juniors too. I hope all of them will work hard and continue to receive love and support from the fans.

Q: You’ll be turning 33 next year, when will you be getting married?
HS: I haven’t found anyone suitable yet ^^ I will work hard, someday I’ll meet someone I like. I’ll still put work before marriage matters.
E: I started work on the drama right after I completed my military duties so I don’t have time to date right now. I think I want to focus on work for now.

Q:Among the recent crop of idol groups, which is the most “Shinhwa” of them all? (In my opinion, of course there’s none ㅋㅋ)
HS: Of course there’s no group like Shinhwa ^^ There are times when I think there are some similarities with Shinhwa when I watch their masculine and dynamic performances. But more often than not, I think that we need to work harder ourselves.
E: I want to say that to be like Shinhwa is to be a group that remains well-loved for a long time because of the close-knit teamwork of the members. The juniors are all doing very well, but we’ll have to wait and see which of them will become a group that will continue to receive love from the fans for a long time, just like Shinhwa ^^

Q: “Hello and Goodbye”… To someone like me who’s been a fan for more than 10 years, the title sounds a little unusual. I think you’re saying ‘goodbye’ to the time that has passed, and saying ‘hello’ to recreating another legend. What did you think when you heard the title?
HS: When I first heard the title I thought that the song was about a sad separation. After looking at the lyrics I was even more sure. ‘Annyeong’ can either express excitement or regret. To me, ‘annyeong’ means more of excitement here. It’s the excitement of seeing the fans whom I’ve not met in a long time, and also a greeting to tell everyone that I will work hard to show a better side of myself.
E: Saying ‘hello’ to recreating another legend, that’s a good way of looking at it, isn’t it? I think that this can express how we will recreate the moments when we’re on stage together. I think ‘Hello and Goodbye’ can express a happy ‘hello’ to the fans whom I’ve not met in ages, and also a ‘goodbye’ to my hiatus, to start anew with my activities. To me, it’s a special song with all kinds of meanings.

Q: I’d like to know the songs that you listen to in the cold winter season~ (Of course all of your songs are nice too)
HS: I like to listen to David Foster’s version of ‘White Christmas’, which is probably a song that many people would think of in winter. I think you can better appreciate the charms of winter when you listen to Christmas carols. And of course the best song for this winter would be ‘Hello and Goodbye’ ^^ Do listen to it more.
E: For winter, there’s Shinhwa’s ‘Winter Story’ album isn’t it ^^ ‘Isn’t It Pretty’ is good, and ‘The Snowy Night’, ‘I’ll Never Let You Go’ are good to listen to as well. Perhaps because it’s an album released for winter so they are all very good songs to listen to for the winter.

Q: I’m a Japanese fan. All Shinhwa fans think about saying ‘hello’ to the 6 of you on stage in the near future, that’s what we are hoping for, do the two you you have moments where you get excited thinking about something similar?
HS: Occasionally when we see the younger idol groups performing on TV, the members think about this even more. Though we aren’t together right now but we will all want to be on the same stage again. We’ve already been looking forward to it. I hope we can quickly get together again.
E: Of course. Because we always think about going about our group activities under Shinhwa’s name, we always feel a sense of pride. Just like the fans, we are also looking forward to singing on the same stage again.

Q: Because the fans are looking forward to Shinhwa’s comeback more than anything else, is this project a hint of the Shinhwa activities to come?
E: Right now it’s difficult for us to operate under the name of Shinhwa, but if it’s to help out one another, I think we’re willing to do so anytime. Although it’s difficult to say exactly when, someday you will see the members altogether again.

Q: As a singer, (or in Mun Jung Hyuk oppa’s case, as an actor) I’d like to know the goals and dreams that you want to achieve! Not just when the six of you are on stage together, but also when you’re really enjoying your individual activities in other fields, I’d like to know your thoughts on that. ^^
HS: As a singer my goal is to become a singer that everyone will remember. The more I go about my activities, the more I feel the preciousness of the fans and my work. So this upcoming concert is titled ‘Close To You’ because I want to interact even more closely with the fans. To repay the love from the fans, I think I can only work hard at singing my heart out. In future I will give everyone the best of me, with good albums and good performances.
E: Actually when I made my acting debut I was very worried about whether I could do a good job, but with the members by my side supporting me, and the fans watching me, I think I can do well. Also as a Shinhwa member, I have a big significance. While I enjoy acting, I also feel the importance of the members and the fans. Since I’m the leader, right now more than my own goals, I want to continue receiving love and support from everyone for a long time together with the members, as Shinhwa.

Q: Hi, I’m a high school fan ^^ Lately there have been many Shinhwa Changjo’ers in their teens. How do you feel when you see these young fans?
HS: Although we’re not active right now, we’re firstly grateful to the teenage fans for showing us love and listening to our songs. In future we will work harder for your love and support through our albums and other activities. Thank you.
E: I’d think that we need to work even harder. And I’m grateful to the fans who got to know us later than the fans in their 20s and 30s, but yet still show us a lot of love. For the sake of the fans who’ve been with us since our debut and the teenage fans, we will work even harder on our songs and also show the best of ourselves in other fields.

Q: It seems that the Shinhwa members get together regularly, what do you do at these gatherings?
HS: As all the fans would know, our anniversary date is 24 March and that’s when the members all get together to hold a little celebration party. Every year, no matter how busy the members are, they’d still put everything aside and get together. Now that I think about it, I’m suddenly starting to miss seeing their faces.

Q: What gives Shinhwa the strength and motivation to stay together for so long?
HS: I think it’s the love from the fans. Without the fans who have been supporting us for more than 10 years from near and far, there’s no way we could have made it this far. We’re always grateful for that. We will work even harder to get to 20 years, 30 years and beyond.
E: Working hard to talk things through when there are disagreements or fights. I think the reason why we can become such a long-running group is because we keep talking to one another. Understanding one another, encouraging one another, like friends but sometimes we’re even close than real brothers, being a source of support and strength for one another.

[10.11.24] Melon interview with Shin Hyesung and Eric: Fans’ questions answered (Part 1 of 2)

The harmony of a 12-year friendship, an interview with Eric and Shin Hyesung

We met Shin Hyesung who’s releasing a new digital single after a long absence and Eric who participated on the single right after his discharge from military service. Earlier,we took questions through Melon’s me2day account and the flood of questions that came through once again let us feel Shinhwa’s popularity and the undiminished presence of Shinhwa fans. ^^ Let’s listen to what they have to say about their friendship and Shinhwa~

It’s been a long time since we last met, this is Shin Hyesung & Eric.

Q: After more than 10 years now, why did you decide to do a duet? ^^ I’m curious about who’s the one who suggested to work together.
HS: For this digital single, Eric has featured on the track with his rap. It has been a long while since I released an album in Korea, and Eric was also absent from the scene due to his military obligations. It so happened that he was discharged from his duties at about the same time I was planning to release the song, and I thought of giving a good present to the fans so I suggested to work together. Eric readily agreed to support me and that’s how we ended up working on the song together.

Q: I know the two of you seek different styles of music, so what have you been listening to lately? And here’s a question of a higher order, what is ‘music’ and ‘Shinhwa’ to Eric and Shin Hyesung?
HS: Rather than to say we particularly seek different kinds of music, the difference comes about because I’m a vocalist and Eric’s a rapper. Even so I don’t just listen to ballads and without classifying it into genres I enjoy listening to all kinds of music. And ‘Shinhwa’ and ‘music’ are all a part of me. They have an inseparable presence to me.
E: Lately I’ve been listening to songs by the juniors. I’ve also been listening to Shinhwa songs. Even when I listen to them again now I still enjoy it. To me, ‘music’ and ‘Shinhwa’ are things that can’t be expressed through words, and these are the most important things in my life. ^^

Q: Did Eric oppa and Hyesung oppa do their recording together? What did you talk about during the recording session? Did anything interesting happen during the recording session?
HS: Eric took care of the rapping and the writing of the rap lyrics so compared to me I think he had more to say to Kang Eun Kyung who’s the lyricist for this song ^^ We are already very comfortable with each other to begin with, so there wasn’t any special incident and the session just ended on a fun note.
E: Our thoughts are very focused during recording and we tend to want to quickly finish up with the recording. For this session, I’ve know Hyesung’s staff members for a long time and we’re very comfortable with one another, so in between breaks we’d joke around a little, and we ended the recording on a happy note.

Q: Both of you whose relationship has been dubbed ‘oil and water’, what are your thoughts on being called ‘a perfect team’ these days?
HS: We’ve been together for 12 years now, so we’re really like family now. When any of us are tired or have difficulties, we’ve always tried hard to be the first to run over and offer our support and assistance. We’re so close that I won’t be exaggerating to say that we’re real brothers.
E: All of us like to crack jokes so on TV shows we would kid around and talk with the other members. Actually we used to be like that but now by just looking at each other we know what each other is thinking so it looks like you can call us a perfect team.

Q: Both of you are now 32 years old (Korean age) but you still look really young~ (Why do only the fans seem to get older ㅠㅠ) Do you have any tips and secrets to maintaining your youthful appearances?
HS: I don’t have any special regime^^ Maybe it’s because I’m doing what I like, and working hard to face everything positively. I think that’s the secret. Ah and more than anything else, I think it’s all thanks for the love that the fans have given me ^^
E: As I have been a public service officer for the past 2 years, I’ve been leading a more regular lifestyle. My health is also better. Maybe that’s the secret? ^^ Rather than talking about looking young, I think if good health naturally leads to a youthful appearance. Instead of working on looking young, I’ve been working hard on staying healthy.

With just 2 weeks to go, let’s gear up for the trending party to celebrate Dongwan’s return!

Date: 7 Dec 2010
Time: 12.00pm to 1.30pm KST
Hashtag: #kimdongwan

A tip from Yeni (thanks girl!):
“To ensure that it will trend, it’s best not to share the trending topic on Twitter prior to the trending time. Twitter measures the TT at the time it first appears, so there can’t be scattered tweets with that hashtag prior to that. We can promote the TT by just tweeting the link to this blog post. There has to be three top tweets. It’s the number of accounts tweeting and not the number of tweets.”

And also, we know not everyone lives in Asia and on Asian time, so here’s a recommended Twitter app called Tweet-U-Later to help time your tweets.

[10.11.22] Bugs interview with Hyesung & Eric (Part 2 of 2)

HYESUNG & ERIC

Q. When news broke out that both of you were releasing a song together, it reminded me of the time when you said on a variety show that both of you had a very awkward relationship. Did you become closer after that? And can you name two members that you feel awkward with now?

Hyesung: Well, now we are all just like brothers, and there’s no awkwardness at all. Rather, as time passes by our friendship just becomes stronger. I try my best to keep in touch with the members who are serving their military duties when time allows.

Q. I heard that tickets to Hyesung’s concert in December sold out within 10 minutes of the opening of ticket sales. How do you feel about that? Please share with us a little of what we can expect at the concert.

Hyesung: First of all I’d like to express my gratitude to all the fans. The concert will be held at a very meaningful venue as that’s where I held my first fanmeeting. The concert is titled “Close To You” because I’d like to have a closer interaction with the fans. Also I’ll be putting a new twist on some classics, along with an acoustic band and strings, and pop songs that are appropriate for the winter season. Please look forward to it.

Q. Eric has already been confirmed for a role in the drama ‘Poseidon’, which also features an impressive cast of Kim Kang Woo, U-Know Yunho, Kim Ok Bin and Kim Ga Young. This is your first project after you’ve completed your military service, and the drama is already very highly anticipated even before the start of filming. Does that make you feel burdened?

Eric: Of course I feel burdened to some extent, but I feel just as much excitement and anticipation. That’s because for the past two years, my ambition and passion towards dramas have grown, and so for this drama I’m returning with the mindset of a newcomer and putting in my best efforts. That’s why I’m working even harder on filming and I hope to have good results. I hope everyone will like it.

Q. It has already been 12 years since Shinhwa made their debut. Compared to 10 years ago, what has changed and what hasn’t?

Hyesung: Firstly we’re all older. (laughs) Speaking of what’s different, we’re more composed when dealing with things, and that the members are all working hard with their individual activities in various fields, be it with their solo albums or acting. But what ‘Shinhwa’ means to us has never changed. It’s hard to say exactly when but the 6 of us will definitely stand on stage as ‘Shinhwa’ again.

Q. Shinhwa is still the legend amongst the idols, isn’t it. Since then, many idol groups have made their debuts. Tell us which male idol groups remind you of Shinhwa back then, or if there are any girl groups that just capture your attention.

Hyesung: It won’t be an overexaggeration to say that it’s the age of idols these days. Though there are many cool and good teams among these newcomers, but in my opinion groups like 2PM and Beast with their performance-oriented and restrained dance choreography, and working relentlessly on singing and dance, don’t they remind you of Shinhwa? (laughs) And among the girl groups, SNSD and Kara who are very active in Japan these days and very well-loved. It makes me feel very proud.

Q. Lastly tell us more about your upcoming plans, and what you would like to say to the fans.

Hyesung: I’ll be seeing all of you through my digital single “Hello and Goodbye” and my concert held on 4-5 December, as well as my 4th album which is scheduled for release next year. Please look forward to all this, and I hope for your support. I’m working hard to show you a better and improved side of me for future stage performances, please show your support for “Hello and Goodbye”, thank you.

Eric: I’m very grateful to all the fans who have continued to show me concern and support during my 2-year absence. In the coming future, not just through dramas, I’ll also show the best of me through other projects, I hope everyone will continue to support me. And I also hope everyone will like this digitial single, please take care not to catch a cold, thank you.^^

[10.11.22] Bugs interview with Hyesung & Eric (Part 1 of 2)

A greeting from the Shinhwa members whom we haven’t met in a long time, “Hello and Goodbye”

Before we knew it, it has already been 12 years since they made their debut, and yet the popularity that this “first generation idol group” proudly possesses is no less than that of 2PM or Super Junior. Literally the legend amongst idols, Shinhwa members Shin Hyesung and Eric have gathered together.

“Hello and Goodbye” is the new song featuring Shin Hyesung’s melancholic vocals and Eric’s smooth rap, coupled with Nam Gyuri’s voice. In conjunction with the release of the new single, Bugs interviewed Shinhwa members Shin Hyesung, who is resuming his activities in Korea after a long break; and Eric, who has been discharged from military service a little earlier than fellow Shinhwa member Kim Dongwan.

THE RESURRECTION OF THE SIX-MAN LEGEND

Q. Hello, it’s really great to hear that the two of you are releasing a song together. It has been a long time since Hyesung released a song, and Eric has only been discharged from military service recently. Please tell us more about what you’ve been busy with recently.

Hyesung: Hello to everyone from the Bugs family, I’m Shin Hyesung. It’s been a long time since I last greeted everyone. I’ve been busy with the overseas concerts and Asia fanmeetings, and I’ve also been working on the digital single, so it’s been a busy time for me. I’m also working hard on the December concert and the 4th album due to be released in January next year. I’m really excited to be releasing a new song after such a long time and I hope to have a good time with everyone at the concert.

Eric: Hello, I’m Eric, glad to see you. I’ve just completed my military duties, and after the production of the single is completed, I’ll start filming for the drama “Poseidon” which will be aired early next year. As this project comes two years after my last drama, I’m putting my best efforts into filming. I hope everyone will look forward to it.

Q. Please tell us more about “Hello and Goodbye”. And also, from a personal point of view, which particular parts of the song do you hope people will pay attention to?

Hyesung: “Hello and Goodbye” is written by two of Korea’s best songwriters, composer Kim Geon Woo and lyricist Kang Eun Kyung, and it’s a medium-tempo ballad with sad lyrics. I think it’s a song that’s very suitable for the winter season. Also, the lyrics which uses an ambiguous word like “annyeong” to depict the beginning and the end of love; the harmony of Eric’s rap and Nam Gyuri’s voice with my voice. I hope everyone can listen to the song thoroughly.

Q. It seems like a long time since you last did recording together, even more so for Eric since he hasn’t done recording at all for a long time now. Is there any sense of awkwardness, or any interesting episodes that took place?

Eric: Although I haven’t done recording in a long time, but I’ve been in the business for so long now, and moreover I’m working with Hyesung, whom I’m already comfortable with, so rather than feeling awkward I think we enjoyed doing recording together.

[10.11.21] Shin Hyesung’s “Hello and Goodbye” tops online music charts

Singer Shin Hyesung has proved his staying power by clinching top spots on various online music charts with his latest digital single “Hello and Goodbye”. Only released on 19 Nov, the single has gone on to become the most-searched keyword on various online portals as well as topping online charts, in a clear show of his undiminished popularity.

Featuring fellow Shinhwa member Eric and Nam Gyuri, the single was already highly anticipated prior to its release.

Especially with fierce competition from 2AM, SNSD, Kara and Superstar K contestants, Shin Hyesung has still managed to capture the top spot, making this achievement even more remarkable. Moreover, tickets to his upcoming concert on 4th and 5th December were all sold out within 10 minutes after ticket sales opened.

A rep from Shin Hyesung’s management company said, “With his 4th album coming in January next year, being able to clinch the top spot on the charts is really encouraging. Besides fans of Shin Hyesung’s ballads, the song seems to have captured fans from other demographics with the participation of Eric and Nam Gyuri on the track.”
