[10.09.28] Dongwan’s memolog: Private tutoring

Why it felt awkward was maybe how the question was phrased..........

When I hear a Japanese friend say, “I’ll give you private lessons!”, it gets a little… awkward.
When I hear a Korean friend say, “I’ll teach you how~”
Naturally a reply like “Ok I’ll buy you a good meal then~” will do.
For some reason, to the Japanese friend
I’d naturally think of asking, “Ah~ Thank you. How much will it be?” ^^;
Um… I suppose either way will do. Or should I try asking “Which is better?”…. ㅜㅜ

[10.09.23] Dongwan’s reviewlog – Capitalism: A Love Story

Capitalism: A Love Story
Director: Michael Moore
Starring: Michael Moore
Produced: 2009 U.S, 127 mins
5 out of 5 stars

Alan Greenspan, who at that moment in time was surely thought to be the smartest man who had walked the face of the earth,
He starts using a phrase, ”Tap your home equity,”
That Americans can tap their home equity, which is just Alan Greenspan-speak for ”borrow against your home.”
And if you can’t repay it you’ll lose your house.
It actually started by talking mostly older Americans, people who already had homes, into refinancing their homes
To get them out of houses.

[10.09.22] Dongwan’s memolog: Enjoy life?

‘Father used to say, you have to enjoy life.’
When I first saw this CF I got goosebumps… Is that okay? And…

It was a CF for a credit card. While in reality people are desperately trying to save money,
A father is telling his son, who’s recklessly swiping his credit card, to enjoy life.
To go spend money…

Recently, because of the rapidly increasing number of advertisement for loans, I often frown while watching TV.
There are so many people who kill themselves because of debt.
Credit and loans will only create more debt.
Under the bright lights, cute or sexy girls dance and sing about *** loans.
Is this really okay..

In our society now, young people are persuaded to enjoy themselves even if they have to take out a loan, and repay it with two or three times worth of labour.
Surviving everyday on nonsense like ‘now or never’, as if it’s ‘cool’ to be brainwashed.

Something is wrong, very wrong.

[10.09.20] Dongwan’s memolog: A weekend dinner with my friend and his wife~

After studying in England for 4 years and working in Japan for 2 years, and now back in England studying for another 4 years
Jin Gyu, who married his Japanese girlfriend whom he met during the Korea-Greece game.
Apparently his (then) girlfriend was more interested in him than cheering the team on…^_^
This guy was my bassist for my solo performance during Shinhwa’s 1st fanmeeting~ㅋ
Now he’s studying oil painting.
The guys around me have all changed way more than I have~-_-;

Mami-chan who explained to me that not all Japanese people have good manners~
I have no manners either so that’s fine~ㅎㅎ

Sanghyunnie who’s still working hard on making music~
When meeting old schoolmates
We can still chat to our heart’s content even without alcohol~

[10.09.21] Dongwan’s memolog: IBM vs Mac

New profile pic!!

by IBM I think he’s just referring to PCs in general…
========================================

While there are many things that an IBM can do, there are many things that its functions can’t do.
While there are many things that a Mac can’t do, there isn’t anything that its functions can’t do.

MacBook’s touchpad is similar to the iPod’s so work efficiency and speed are increased.
For IBM, it makes me think of the idiotic Internet Explorer and the system that really tests a person’s patience.
Of course you can’t do things like online shopping, online banking and financial transactions on a Mac. It can’t even play the BGM on a Cyworld page.
But for people who mainly work with photos, music, design and documents, and want speed and efficiency, it’s the best personal computer!

While there are many people who have thrown out their IBMs, there are many people who treat Macs preciously
Not just only because they’re pretty.

P.S. In the case of the MacBook, the touchpad is faster than the mouse.
The mouse can’t match the amazing technology of the touchpad.
I think I shouldn’t have bought the mouse. I’ve only used it once after I opened it…-_-
Even with the magic driver it’s difficult to use.-_-;
Don’t buy the mouse. It won’t sell even if you sell it secondhand….ㅜㅠ

[10.09.20] Dongwan’s memolog: The butterfly effect

Dawn 808 is the BEST hangover cure ever invented – if you ever had too much to drink in Korea, head to any convenience store and grab a can of it. Tastes nasty but it sure works wonders. LOL

====================================

An event at the district office was taking place from Saturday morning onwards
So I went back early the day before and got ready for bed,
But the seniors said they were having a drinking session so I thought I’d drop by just to say hello.
But it would have been rude to reject their invitation to drink.
And somehow I had quite a lot to drink…
I sobered up and was heading home when a friend called and said he was nearby.
I thought I’d just drink for an hour and we ended up finishing 5 hours worth of drinks in 1 hour.
Just like that, the moment I reached home I was completely knocked out, and I slept for only about 3 hours before I headed out again.
The smell of alcohol on me was no joke.
To get rid of the smell and the hangover I downed a bottle of Dawn 808 (a brand of Korean hangover tea) with green tea and continued to move the equipment.
There was still some time before the opening ceremony of the event so I was taking a rest
When I suddenly wanted to throw up. I didn’t eat anything but I still threw up in the washroom~
Since the stuff I threw up was only Dawn 808 and water so I didn’t feel sick. Because there weren’t any bits of food. ㅎ
I was taking photos of the event when I turned around to see my photo being put up.
I had an expression that said… ‘What do you think you’re doing now!?’… ㅎㅎㅎ
It was a university taekwondo club, and they were using the ‘Spin Kick’ posterfor their recruitment event.
That… Standing in a ragged taekwondo uniform with an intense scowl…
Now looking like a wreck with an oily face after throwing up.
In case anyone should compare how I used to look and how I look now
I just somehow pulled my cap down low…

[10.09.18] Dongwan’s reviewlog: The Invincible

I know the English title for this movie is “A Better Tomorrow” – but I’m just going to call the Korean version by the literal translation of its Korean title (“The Invincible”) because that’s the only way I can differentiate it from the original Hongkong film (and its sequel) whose title is “A Better Tomorrow”…

Here’s the theme song from “A Better Tomorrow 2″ that Dongwan mentioned in his post – Leslie Cheung’s dying scene.

Director: Song Hae Sung
Starring: Joo Jin Mo, Song Seung Hun, Kim Kang Woo, Jo Han Seon
Produced: 2010, Korea, 124 minutes
Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Song Seung Hun is so cool here…
Jo Han Seon is so despicable here…

Joo Jin Mo and Kim Kang Woo, with their ‘brotherly love’ and ‘fraternal love’
Have portrayed a kind of love between brothers that has never been seen before.
Ah… It’s different from the love in ‘Frozen Flower’… ㅋ

Who said that being ‘pretty boys’ they won’t be able to immerse themselves in their roles…
The four hunks in this movie did not put up a rough front,
Nor did they furrow their brows in a forced manner.
They exuded charisma through the look in their eyes and their gestures
Borne out of their own life experiences.

The embracing scene which seemed to be the director’s homage to Chow Yun Fatt and Ti Lung
Together with the background music ‘Running Towards The Future’, it made my emotions surge.
Ah… Just thinking about it makes me want to cry….ㅜㅠ

This is just ‘The Invincible’ as viewed from the perspective of a fan of ‘A Better Tomorrow’.
‘A Better Tomorrow’ is still better than this.

[10.09.18] Dongwan’s memolog: You’re angry…

It’s not about who inflicts and who is at the receiving end.
Because someone killed a person over 100,000 won,
And someone killed himself because of 1 million won.
I too find it regrettable that anyone should leave the world like this…
So… I have no explanation at all.
Things like our pain can’t even be shown or revealed.
Though I can’t imagine the weight that you’re feeling.
I think I know what it is that you feel resentful about…
So I… have no explanation at all.

[10.09.16] Dongwan’s memolog: Voice of the heart.

It’s not that I’m quick-witted, just that you’re slow to catch on.
It’s not that I’m smart, just that you’re foolish.
It’s not that I’m fast, just that you’re slow.
It’s not that I exercise everyday, just that you’re living a lazy life.
It’s not that I watch my diet everyday, just that you eat recklessly everyday.
I drink occasionally, you occasionally don’t drink.
I said this…
To a junior
From the bottom of my heart.
Because I want to be a good senior.
I’d hate to be a naggy granddad…ㅎ

What is important isn’t ethnicity or nationality, age or educational qualifications.
To change the world, every individual’s efforts are important.
You have to decide for yourself how to go about making the change.
If I change, the world changes too.
People are always complaining.
They only ‘talk’ about having to make things right.
Complaints and analysis have to stop.
To change the world we have to take action.

[10.09.11] Eric in discussions for drama comeback

Singer/actor Eric will be marking his return with a primetime drama at the end of the year. Currently serving as a public service officer, Eric will be discharged from military service on 22 October, and prior to his discharge he has already been receiving love calls from drama productions. According to an insider, Eric has received 7-8 offers from drama productions with broadcast dates ranging from the end of this year to early next year, proving that his popularity from before his enlistment has remained fairly intact.

Among these drama productions, there are about two in particular with a greater chance of him appearing in. One of them is apparently a drama written by a popular writer, and has become a hot topic for discussion even before it’s aired. The insider said, “He’ll make a decision soon as to whether or not he will take up the role in the drama, as filming is scheduled to start upon his discharge. Eric may be able to greet the viewers in a role very well-suited to him by the end of November.”

Eric will resume acting activities as well as music activities upon his discharge. During this period of time while he has been serving his military duty, he has been working on materials for his album. As fellow Shinhwa members Lee Minwoo, Junjin, Kim Dongwan and Andy are still in military service now, group activities seem unlikely for now thus he has plans to work on his solo album first.

The insider elaborated, “He often meets up with the Shinhwa members to talk about his solo album and they talk a lot about Shinhwa as well. Eric has been rapping for Shinhwa, and his solo album will also have a hip-hop feel and a strong character to it.”

Prior to his enlistment in October 2008, Eric had established himself as an actor with dramas such as “Phoenix”, “Que Sera Sera” and “Super Rookie”.

[10.09.09] Dongwan’s memolog: Ideal type.

Have you been reading my mind, Dongwan-shi :D

Look. I really like you.
It’s not that I have unusual taste.
The others don’t know how charming you are.
Though proving my love is something I enjoy too.
But it’s ridiculous to keep sulking for no reason.
What… You have no idea how lovely you are,
You don’t have any reason to be even lovelier.

This is in relation to an industrial accident in Korea where a steel worker died after falling into a furnace.

R.I.P

=================================

The young man disappeared in the extreme heat
Don’t use that molten metal

Don’t use it to make cars
Don’t use it to make steel bars
Don’t use it to make nails
Don’t use it to make needles

It’s all made up of regrets and tears, how can it be used?

Don’t use that molten metal
Ask a good-hearted sculptor
To sculpt his face out of clay
Cast it into a steel mold and let the rain cool it
Polish it with utmost sincerity
Place it in front of the main gate
From time to time his mother may come by
“I have to touch my child’s face one more time”

[10.09.08] Lee Jung, Tony An, Eric – Singers lined up for army discharge

Several singers will be making their return to the music industry as they complete their military service in the second half of the year.

Lee Jung was the first to be discharged last month. Having completed 22 months of active duty after enlisting with the Marines on 20th October 2008, he has completed his service and returned in good health.

Upon his discharge, Lee Jung has immediately started work on his new album. A rep from his management company said, “His new album should be released around mid-October. Unlike his ballad style which he has presented to everyone before, he will display a tougher image with a new style of music.”

Former H.O.T member Tony An will also be returning in October. Having enlisted on 4th November 2008, Tony An is scheduled to be discharged on 14 September. Tony An has been active on army radio channel KFM as a radio DJ and has been serving his duty as part of the Defense Media Agency. He has only a week of military service left.

According to a rep from his management company, Tony An will be taking a short rest before meeting with his fans via a solo album at the end of October.

Shinhwa member Eric will complete his military duty on 22th October. Eric enlisted on 9th October 2008, and was deployed to the Sports Complex subway station as a public service officer.

Eric will first make his comeback in a drama. A rep from his management company said that Eric has already received offers from several drama productions, and with less than 2 months to go before his return, he is now carefully considering his options.

As fellow members Kim Dongwan, Lee Minwoo, Junjin and Andy are still serving their military duty, group activities may not be possible for now, thus Eric will work on a solo album first. The rep added that work on the album will only start after the schedule for his comeback drama has been decided.

The second half of 2010 marks the much-anticipated return of the original idol singers, who look set to take the music industry by storm.

[10.09.08] Groom-to-be Lee Hwi Jae, “Who will take over my Casanova role? Maybe Boom or Junjin”

On the 20th August episode of MBC’s Section TV, Lee Hwi Jae said that “perhaps Boom or Junjin can take over my Casanova role.”

Lee Hwi Jae has earned himself the nickname of “Lee Param” (note: param, literally ‘wind’, is Korean slang for ‘fooling around/playing the field’) for his Casanova character. He said, “Please call me ‘Lee Ka Jeong’ (family) or ‘Lee Dandelion’ instead.”

Lee Hwi Jae will be getting married on 5 December this year to a florist who’s younger than him.

[10.09.08] Hwanhee: I have a better stage name than Kangta, Junjin

Singer Hwanhee shared an interesting anecdote about his stage name on the 27 August episode of KBS 2TV’s “Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook”.

“Mr Lee Soo Man gave me this name. At first I didn’t really like the name ‘Hwanhee’ (literally ‘joy’), but then I thought it sounds better than ‘Kangta’ (literally ‘powerful strike’) or ‘Junjin’ (literally ‘moving forward’)”, he quipped.

Hwanhee’s real name is Hwang Yoon Seok.
