Shin Hye Sung Sounds Like Psy?

Already known to be an avid fan of Psy’s Gangnam Style, Shinhwa’s Shin Hye Sung mimicked Psy’s voice on jTBC’s Shinhwa Broadcast

The Shinhwa members split into two teams to search for a hidden treasure. On the way to the next mission destination, Shin Hye Sung revealed, “I went to a karaoke room and sang Gangnam Style and the people there all said that my voice was very similar to Psy’s voice.”

Jun Jin and Kim Dong Wan, who were also on the same team as Shin Hye Sung, told him to prove it. Shin Hye Sung then sang the song, creating an energetic atmosphere inside the van, making Jun Jin join in the fun.

Following the performance, Kim Dong Wan admitted that Shin Hye Sung does sound a bit like Psy.

Shinhwa already showed that they were big fans of Psy and his Gangnam Style when the members got up and danced every time the song played during a past episode of Shinhwa Broadcast

Shin Hye Sung’s imitation of Psy will air on September 15.

Shinhwa’s Performance of ‘I Pray 4 U’ Named Legendary by ‘Must’

The September 8 broadcast of Mnet’s Must looked back on the ‘Legend of the Legends’ in a special episode.

And when you’re talking about legends, you can’t leave out the long-running group Shinhwa, which is legend in both name and existence.

In a May episode of Must, Shinhwa had graced the stage with many performances including one of the smash hit I Pray 4 U, and this was the one that made it into the special episode as a legendary performance on the show.

I Pray 4 U is a single from the group’s fifth album, and gathered popularity at the time for its mellow theme fit for the summer and the members’ refreshing voices.

The episode also featured legendary performances by Kim Kyung Ho, LeeSsang and BMK.

Dongwan’s Naver blog: 2012 (I still don’t have a goal yet)

I heard this somewhere before,
Generally when people fail, it’s not because they’re not talented, but because they don’t have a goal.
As I was watching the episode of ‘Do Dream’ featuring director Kim Ki-duk, I recalled the saying that I heard before.
But as for me. I still don’t have a goal yet…

Eric and Shin Hyesung battle it out for Junjin on ‘Shinhwa Broadcast’

Shinhwa members Eric and Shin Hyesung battle it out on the latest episode of Shinhwa Broadcast in a bid to recruit members for their own teams.

For the upcoming 8th September episode of the jTBC variety show, the Shinhwa members become ‘The Petty Thieves’ (a parody of the hit movie ‘The Thieves’) and the two teams go up against each other in a treasure hunt. Before the race began, Eric and Shin Hyesung, as the respective leaders of the black and white teams, received a mission to recruit two members for their teams.
The two team leaders bumped into each other at the car park and started trying to figure out each other’s strategy, getting locked in a psychological battle. Both leaders aimed to recruit Junjin for his physical strength and variety sense, and launched into an all-out battle for Junjin.
While Eric and Shin Hyesung focused on winning Junjin over, the remaining members did not hear from either team leader and just waited, unable to hide their disappointment. The 15-year friendship among the members were tested amidst false news of ‘we’re coming over now so just wait’ and situations of betrayal.
Catch this episode of Shinhwa Broadcast on jTBC at 11.10pm KST on 8 Sept.

My main position in the team is the spoilt brat, but you’re calling me a role model…
Saying that is going to cause a lot of trouble.

10asia Op-Ed: “I hereby appoint Dongwan-sshi as the role model for idols”

To Kim Dongwan-sshi from jTBC’s ‘Shinhwa Broadcast’
With the bullying controversy surrounding a popular girl group swamping the headlines this whole week, I couldn’t watch jTBC’s ‘Shinhwa Broadcast’ without much thought, as I do usually. Shinhwa, the group that has been together for 14 years without ever changing its member lineup. Why is it that they haven’t had disagreements, animosity and conflicts? Looking at many other cases, everywhere there are bound to be discontented people, either excessively lazy people or clean freaks. Moreover, if they live under the same roof, clashes are bound to happen. How can they hope for peace and quiet with all these different personalities and different voices? Even when the two kids that came from my belly start a fight in front of me, they say very different things.
The solution to overcoming these moments of crisis can be found when we watch ‘Shinhwa Broadcast’. The ‘Farm Channel’ edition of the show featured the Shinhwa members making their way to a farm, where the air is good and the water is clean, for some freedom and rest. This episode, titled ‘Shinhwa Outing & God of the Countryside’, is a parody of ‘Family Outing’ and ‘Countryside Diary’. Unexpectedly the members were catching and handling live fishes, and without batting an eyelid the fish was taken care of with a single stroke of the knife. Eventually, a meal that exceeded everyone’s expectations was skillfully prepared. Even though it was a parody, I like the fact that the members didn’t stick to following the formula and instead restructured things according to their own inclinations. Although 6 years has passed since SBS ‘Love Letter’, they have only gotten better. Of course, their youthfulness has decreased. But they have replaced it with plenty of confidence.
If you look at Shinhwa, you will see the secret to their longevity

When talking about the secret to Shinhwa’s group longevity, we first must look at the qualities of their leader. Though it has been mentioned on many talkshows, whenever the group is faced with an unfavorable situation, it seems like leader Eric-sshi is the one who prevents the group from disintegrating with his wit and charisma. But during this time that I’ve been watching the show, I realised that we cannot overlook the role of the members who have faith in what the leader says, and follow him accordingly. Particularly not to be ignored is the role of Kim Dongwan-sshi, who’s seemingly insensible but is actually more mature than he lets on; who doesn’t seem very funny but makes us laugh more than anyone else.
It was 1999 when Shinhwa was actively promoting ‘T.O.P’. Thinking that they were yet another cookie-cutter idol group, I was about to switch channels but the content of the interview was quite different and witty and caught my attention. They were quite different from the typical idols who repeated run-of-the-mill answers like parrots. At that time, I remember Dongwan-sshi who took the lead in the interview, and he had a dynamism that was very much unlike a rookie. After that, the way that Hyesung-sshi and Eric-sshi did the bungee jump caught my eye, and through that I gradually came to discover this group with their own unique charms. And so for a long time I thought Kim Dongwan-sshi was the leader of Shinhwa. A long time passed before I realised that he acts as the ‘behind-the-scenes’ leader.

The members are always teasing one another but they’re always looking out for one another

If you think about it, it seems like Dongwan-sshi is always reconfirming Eric’s sense of responsibility and leadership when he goes on talkshows. It’s Dongwan who testified that Eric had received a big contract offer after gaining much popularity for his role in MBC drama ‘Phoenix’, only to readily reject the offer, choosing instead to move together with his fellow members. Though excellent leadership is important, recognizing and being genuinely proud of his team-mate’s virtue, isn’t it another reason for the group’s longevity? Compared to sharing the sadness in times of sorrow, it’s actually more difficult to share the joy in times of happiness.
In every episode, he cracks lame jokes, he’s bad at games and so he becomes a ‘black hole’ and gets teased for it, but well-meaning Dongwan-sshi doesn’t get mad and is always taking care of the members. Recently, he has risen from his ‘black hole’ status to become an ace instead. Playing the role of patriotic poet Lee Yuk-sa in last year’s MBC Liberation Day special drama ‘The Peak’, he has received recognition as an actor. His acting was praised for being unlike that of an idol, but since his first acting stint in KBS drama ‘Children of Heaven’, Dongwan-sshi has never shown sub-par acting abilities. Though the few acting projects he headlined did not fare well in terms of viewership, Dongwan-sshi’s acting ability has been impeccable. He may not be the most eye-catching member in the team, he helps in maintaining the harmony among the members while quietly working hard to do well on his own projects – I think Kim Dongwan-sshi can be considered as the support of the whole team. I hope from now on, idol group members can look up to Dongwan-sshi as a role model, get along in harmony and grow together.

On the August 18th broadcast of jTBC‘s ‘Shinhwa Broadcast‘, Shinhwa‘s Dongwan revealed his opinion on friendship and love.
The episode featured, “Friendship Channel – The Best Friend“, in which a 50-member panel of men were invited to answer a series of questions along with the Shinhwa members.
Guest MC, Son Bum Soo, asked “If your friend and girlfriend asked to rendezvous at the same time, who would you go to?“, to which Junjin replied, “I’d call my girlfriend over to where I am hanging out with my friends. When I am on a date, most of the times my friends are also with me“. Hyesung added, “In the past, friendship was more important to me than love. I would deem my appointments with friends more important, but now I regret doing so“, while Eric displayed his romanticism as he firmly stated, “I will go to my girlfriend no matter what“.
On the other hand, Dongwan displayed a much different opinion than his members when he stated, “I used to be a person who believed that love was more important than friendship, however, after suffering because of love a few times, I found out that friendship goes on forever and girls don’t mean much.”
To this, Son Bum Soo, asked Dongwan, “Are you in pain because of your recent break-up?”, to which Dongwan replied, “This has nothing to do with my recent break-up. [There was a time] when I was dumped when I was deeply in love“.
Furthermore, Dongwan added, “The Shinhwa members helped me overcome my heartbreak over breaking up“, to which the members  replied, “That is not true. We didn’t even know he was dating“, playfully lightening up the atmosphere.

Shinhwa Members Reveal Art Skills by Drawing Portraits of Each Other on ‘Shinhwa Broadcast’

The Shinhwa members will each reveal just how good they are when it comes to drawing portraits of each other.

In the upcoming episode of jTBC’s Shinhwa Broadcast, last week’s ‘Historic drama channel – historic drama Olympics’ will continue for a second part.

In the new episode, the Shinhwa members will pair up and be tasked with drawing each other’s portraits - the results are reportedly surprising and humourous, and again reaffirms the members’ friendship.

Shin Hye Sung, who even before the start of the task shared he had no talent in drawing, was said to have erupted the entire room into a sea of laughter with his artistic take on Eric, making viewers all the more curious for the episode’s airing on September 1.
