[09.04.01] Neighbourhood kingkas* and uljjangs* turned stars

*kingka - A Korean term used to describe young men with good looks and other
desirable qualities

*uljjang - Literally ‘best face’ in Korean, it
refers to someone who has a very attractive face, and nowadays used to describe
people who have become popular for their looks.

I’ll only be translating
the short Andy bit (and throw in a pic of young Eric) - but I’ll do a quick
summary of the other stars too coz I think it’s quite an interesting trivia
read…and I’m a sucker for trivia ^^;

This article talks about the many
stars in Korean showbiz who grew up (not necessarily born there) being regular
kids from neighbourhoods from cities other than Seoul but eventually found their
way to stardom in Seoul. So take a good look around your neighbourhood - one of
those pesky little kids around the corner of the street may be the next big
thing in Hollywood or Hallyuwood…

Han Ye Seul is among one of the more well-known Kyopos (Korean term for people of Korean descent who reside permanently outside of the Korean Peninsula). She attended the same elementary school in Orange County as Shinhwa member Andy, and eventually starred in the sitcom ‘Nonstop 4′ after she made her debut in Korean showbiz. Han Ye Seul was famous in school for her pretty looks while Andy was known for being smart and adorable. Andy once talked about this, “Although we were from the same school, I don’t remember anything about her. I was surprised to find out that she could still remember me. I feel bad about it.”
