[09.10.30] Solo comeback Andy: Shinhwa hyungs said ‘thank you’ to me

To Shinhwa’s Andy, the term ‘maknae‘ (youngest) does not apply anymore. Not just because he has already been in showbiz for 12 years, but because his recent projects make it difficult for people to see him as the adorable maknae of the group.

Right now, there can be 4 more titles added to Andy’s name – Shinhwa member, solo singer, actor and record producer. Having been in showbiz for 12 years, Andy is now taking on challenges in various areas, and demonstrating his masculine side.

Now exuding a masculine charm, he has just released his 2nd solo album, ‘Single Man’.

“It has been about 1 year and 10 months before I released the 2nd album. This whole year I’ve been focusing on acting, and with his album I want to attempt a change of image, which is why the album is being released a little later. If the focus was placed on ‘cute’ for the last album, it’s a whole new focus on masculine charm for this album. Because I think it’s about time to show everyone a change in me.”

But he is clear that all this while people have come to know him by his ‘cute guy’ image, and that’s why he was also hesitant about attempting a change. Whenever this happens, ‘lifelong companions’ Shinhwa members become his motivation.

When Eric, who’s currently serving his military duty, heard about Andy’s new album, he said ‘thank you’ to him. Even without the hyungs around, Andy has been keeping the Shinhwa name alive by staying active in showbiz as a solo singer, an actor and a producer; and he’s certainly a maknae to be proud of.

Andy said, “Not just Eric hyung, but Minwoo hyung and the other hyungs will always be my strongest supporters. And we’ve already been talking about Shinhwa’s 10th album for the longest time, so when we all reunite, we will definitely work on Shinhwa’s new album.”

The SBS daily drama ‘Two Wives’, which ended its run on 30th October, gave Andy the vote of confidence to continue acting. In the drama, he played a impulsive young man who fell in a love with an older woman, and this role made him like acting even more. Just before the drama ended, the writers had nothing but praise for him, saying that his acting improved day by day since filming began.

“Kim Young Rim sonsaengnim, and the seniors Kim Ji Young, Kim Ho Jin and Lee Yoo Jin have all helped me to perform better and more naturally. In ‘Two Wives’, the most precious things I’ve gained are these seniors.”

Having earned confidence in acting, he is now immersed in his solo music career. He feels that he has to be fully committed to all of his work.

Andy said, “This time round the title track is ‘Single Man’, and just like the title says, I’ve been single for a long time, but on stage I’d like to show everyone a stylish single man.”

Transforming from the adorable maknae to the charismatic man, everyone is interested to see how the results of this transformation will turn out.
