Singer/actor Eric raised some eyebrows when he said, "As an actor I've done all kinds of scenes except for intimate bed scenes."
At an interview on 1 August on the set of KBS2 drama Strongest Chil Woo, he shared his thoughts on filming his first sageuk drama. He made his appearance in his najang costume, complete with his essential pink Hello Kitty fan in hand. When asked if he was feeling warm, he replied, "This costume is only two layers, it's not too bad already. The yangban costume is worse - it's thicker and doesn't absorb perspiration."
The filming has become much tougher lately due to the weather. It could be pouring one day, and hot and stuffy the next day. Once the director shouts Cut!, we can see all the actors and crew rushing for their fans and to wipe themselves down.
Eric said, "If the weather was good, I'd think that filming a sageuk is not too bad. Outdoor filming, other than the heat, has a lot of merits too. After I've done contemporary dramas, filming a sageuk is a completely new experience to me. I really feel that it's tough, but then again, contemporary dramas aren't easy either."
"After Strongest Chil Woo, I think I've done every kind of scene that an actor could have done - except for intimate bed scenes. I guess once I've been through military service, the experience will help me become a better actor."
Eric is due to enlist for military service in September. He said, "I know that many celebrities are due to enlist in August, but I'll be the first among the Shinhwa members to enlist, followed by Kim Dongwan in October. I'll actually be receiving training for 4 months, I feel bad about that. But I just want to complete my duty seriously and quietly."
He also expressed that he could be involved in music production after the filming wraps up, only that he's not sure if it's his own album or for someone else. "But since I've been featuring in some songs for other singers, I'd like to continue with that. Kim Do Hyun has been telling me to release my own album before I enlist. I'm still considering that."
