[08.08.11][news] The second rising of idol stars


Lee Hyori who made a stunning comeback with number one spots on various music charts within the first week of the release of her new album; 'Kid Jiwon' Eun Jiwon who has become a key part of KBS's 1 Night 2 Days; Mun Jung Hyuk (Eric) who is currently seen on the KBS2 drama Strongest Chil Woo.

What do they have in common? The fact that they all started out as members of idol groups, and that they now are enjoying greater popularity than ever before. Idol group members are now making crossovers to other fields such as becoming solo singers, actors and entertainers.


The Stage Is My Source oF Energy: Idol group members turned singers

Having just released her 3rd album It's Hyorish, Lee Hyori is enjoying overwhelming response on the music charts with her title track U Go Girl. Ever since she went solo in 2003, she has also tried her hand at acting and hosting. Now she's back on stage demonstrating the "Lee Hyori effect".

Members of H.O.T have also received much attention for their solo activities. Leader Moon Hee Jung went from dance group member to rock singer, and ended up gaining a large number of anti-fans in the process. However, his passion for music has received recognition and he has once again made his post-army comeback as a musician.

On the other hand, Kangta released his own solo albums and is currently serving his military duty, while Tony has also released his solo albums and is currently grooming new singers.

Members of the longest-running group Shinhwa Lee Minwoo, Shin Hyesung, Kim Dongwan, Junjin and Andy have also released solo albums.

Shining On Screen: Idol group members turned actors



Admired by many for their outstanding looks, some idol group members have turned to acting as an extension of their showbiz careers. Currently appearing in Strongest Chil Woo, Shinhwa leader Eric is now an established actor in his own right as Mun Jung Hyuk.

Former G.O.D member Yoon Kye Sang appeared in the movie Ballet Lessons with Lee Junki, Joo Wan and Kim Min Jung, before going off to serve his military duty. He came back to acting after 2 years and has enjoyed recognition for his roles in Crazy Love, Who Are You and the movies Six Years In Love and Beastie Boys.

Former Baby V.O.X. member Yoon Eun Hye has risen to become an A-list actress after her roles in MBC's Goong and Coffee Prince.


The Comedy Virus: The new darlings of variety shows

Besides singing and acting, other take on variety shows. Recently many idol group stars have been the focus of attention on variety shows.

For a start, "Kid Jiwon" Eun Jiwon of 1 Night 2 Days started out as the charismatic leader of Sechskies. After the group disbanded, he moved to release several solo albums as a rapper. And now on variety shows, he has become popular with viewers for his adorable antics.

Shinhwa member Junjin has also been making waves on variety shows, such as SBS's Yashimmanman and MBC's Infinity ChallengeFellow Shinhwa member Andy, together with Jewelry member Seo In Young and former Chakra member Hwang Bo have also become very popular via their appearances on MBC's We Got Married.
