[09.06.18] Junjin: You will see a new side of me on Infinity Challenge

Lately Junjin hasn’t been able to speak up much on “Infinite Challenge” and his sense of presence has decreased considerably. As his screen time on the show has dropped so much, he recently has even been called “Folding Screen Junjin” (A folding screen mostly serves only a decorative purpose so… that nickname would mean something like “Decorative Junjin”). When he joined the show just last fall, he was known for cracking jokes and suddenly becoming serious, and he was very active on the variety show circuit. His outstanding dance abilities, vocal abilities and athletic prowess meant that he was very suited for challenging games. He even earned nicknames such as “Million Dollar Baby”, “Janjin”, “The Guy Who Tumbled In”, and “Janppinom”.

According to Director Jun Sung Ryul of Junjin’s management company, “Junjin had hurt his wrist and foot while filming his MV and “Infinite Challenge”, as a result he had to miss a few filming sessions as he had to get his X-rays done and receive treatment at the hospital. He has missed about 3-4 filming sessions of Infinite Challenge.

“Anyway, for now it would a stretch to say that Junjin plays a key role on “Infinite Challenge”, but from now onwards things will be back to normal. Starting from this week’s filming session, Junjin’s part will increase and he will have more lines than before.”

According to his management company, Junjin is well aware that he has been stagnating on “Infinite Challenge”. It’s also clear that the production team will not hesitate to ruthlessly edit out any parts that doesn’t meet their standards, regardless of which member it may be.

The main reason for Junjin’s quick rise in popularity last fall was because the idea of an idol singer grouped with the members of below-average standards was very refreshing. However, this concept is no longer popular with viewers and so he will no longer carry on with it. Instead he will adapt and change his character accordingly.

The new concept that Junjin will take on makes use of his status at the youngest in the team: a character who sometimes says or does childish things, and sometimes defies the seniors and sets himself against them.

Junjin said, “In any case, the show is about the six members competing with each other, to increase your importance on the show by doing or saying interesting things. I’m slowly recovering from the injuries, and I will put in my best efforts from now onwards.”

On the other hand, Junjin has been busy with his Asia tour. He has just held a concert in Taiwan on 13th June, and will be heading to the Chinese cities of Chengdu and Beijing on 19th and 20th June respectively.
