No.1112, Route 2 Road
“On a road with no mobile phone reception, if the car breaks down, then we’ll have to ask the other vehicles for assistance, right?”
Lee Ji Hoon follows Shin Hyesung’s instructinos. Even if they don’t say it out loud, they know what each other is thinking, and that’s what true friends are. Driving on No.1112 Route 2 towards Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak), one can fully take in the wide plains on both sides of the road and little streets formed by rows of fir trees.
SHIN HYESUNG & LEE JI HOON
Friends On A Camping Car Road Trip To Jejudo
There is only one reason behind the decision of the well-known showbiz buddies to travel to Jejudo. That is, “It’s going to be fun.”
“I probably go travelling with Hyesung about two to three times in a year. We would swim, sleep, play golf… Mostly it’s to rest and relax. But driving a camping car to Jejudo this time round, it really ignited our curiosity. We even played rock, paper, scissors to decide who gets to drive (laughs)”
Shin Hyesung, Lee Ji Hoon and Kangta are well known as best buddies in showbiz. Their relationship dates back to ten years ago when they weren’t enjoying popularity as idol stars and were going through difficult times. They had experienced all kinds of pain and setbacks after becoming entertainers at such a young age, but the three of them supported and encouraged each other throughout. As Kangta is now serving his military duty, the three of time rarely get to meet up, but they would definitely spend any days off together.
“During the period while Kangta is serving his military duty, Ji Hoon and I have been going on trips, so Kangta gets pretty jealous and say that we’re neglecting him. Though it’s nice to travel alone too, but it would be more fun to travel with a friend who shares your interests. Ji Hoon and I have similar hobbies too.”
In the summer, they would go fishing by the sea or by the river, and the two sports-loving buddies just returned from a golfing trip in Shenyang, China.
“Actually we just came back from China and now we’re off to Jejudo. We went to China purely to take a break, so we woke up really late, ate lots of good food, we’re pretty lazy, aren’t we” (Ji Hoon)
Having decided to travel by camping car, the two of them quickly prepared food, game machines and movie DVDs etc. While looking at the map, gourmet Lee Ji Hoon declares that he will visit every restaurant in Jejudo.
“The best thing about travelling is being able to taste the local delicacies, isn’t it. Ji Hoon and I would try all the local specialties when we go travelling.” (Hyesung)
Deciding whether to have abalone stew or black pork for dinner, the two haggle for a while and then starts planning the next stop.

1. Phoenix Island – Sopjikogi (on the eastern coast of Jejudo)
“So this is where the famous drama ‘All In’ was filmed” (Ji Hoon)
“But we can’t drive the camping car in here” (Hyesung)
As we want to do the photoshoot at Sopjikogi on Jejudo’s eastern coast, the camping car is driven onto the plains, and the two guys are very excited.
“But I shouldn’t be here at such a picturesque place with Hyesung, I should be here with my girlfriend (laughs)”

2. Camping Car For A Week
Travelling by camping car isn’t troublesome and allow travellers to enjoy the trip freely. The two guys are very happy.
“Accommodation and meals are settled all at once, and the rental cost of a camping cost for 1N2D is only about 20,000KRW. It can become a low-budget trip, I like it a lot” (Hyesung)
3. The Basics Of Food Preparation
“Although a camping car can take care of accommodation and food, you still have to remember to bring necessities like toiletries, chopsticks, spoons, cups and plates.” For the trip, Lee Ji Hoon ambitiously prepares grilled sausages for lunch.
“I packed the vegetables for the sausages in an icebox. I can be considered as a top nominee for best bridegroom, no? (laughs)”
4. Bringing DVDs
Special region-specific camping car TVs aren’t common in Jejudo
“I already checked it out, so I brought along a couple of DVDs. I’m thinking of opening the windows at night, and with the cool breeze blowing, I’ll watch a comedy while drinking canned beer.” (Hyesung)
ROW 2, PIC 3
Having lost to Lee Ji Hoon, Shin Hyesung doesn’t get to have his abalone stew, and he swears to win tomorrow so that he gets to eat it. Drinking away happily, the two guys are after all buddies for 10 years.
Shin Hyesung has been busy with his album and his Asian tour, while Lee Ji Hoon has been busy with his musical. Though they don’t get to meet up often because of their busy work schedules, but when they do, they can’t stop talking, and unknowingly they’ve already chatted til dawn.
“Taking time off to travel with friends, it’s partly to rest and relax, but more importantly it’s to chat, and share our troubles. When either of us is feeling tired and having a difficult time, we want to encourage and help each other out.” (Ji Hoon)
To Shin Hyesung and Lee Ji Hoon, a friendship trip is a good way to temporarily cast aside the drudgery of daily life, and to give time to recharge themselves. When asked about their next destination, both of them replied at the same time, “The US”.
“I did my high school and senior high in the US, and my friends in the US have been asking me to take a vacation there. Ji Hoon hasn’t been to the US, so he wants to go take a look too.” (Hyesung)
The two guys are almost like lovers (?) who want to take care of each other. Shin Hyesung is still busy with his Asian tour, and Lee Ji Hoon is about to start on a hectic drama filming schedule, so it won’t be easy to schedule their next trip together.
When Kangta is discharged from the army, they will have to go on a trip together. As for the destination, they’ve been discussing it for a long time. They’ll let Kangta decide, and then go by camping car.
“Since we’re here on Jejudo, we’ll have to go fishing. I didn’t catch any sea breams the last time, I should be able to catch some together with Hyesung right? (laughs)
ROW 3, PIC 1
6. Looking For The Driving Route
As they are driving a camping car, the two guys seem to have abandoned the thought of being passengers.
“Though it doesn’t feel as satisfying as driving a sports car, but you can drive it to your heart’s content, and it’s really fun. The coastal roads on Jejudo are really suitable for driving” (Hyesung)
7. On The Way To The ‘All In’ House At Sopjikogi
“Since we’re here at Sopjikogi, we can’t miss the ‘All In’ House” (Ji Hoon)
Following the coastal roads is all picturesque scenery, and the mountain range of Sopjikogi is where we’re headed towards
8. OK Seungmajang (OK Horse Riding Ranch)
“I picked up horse-riding not too long ago, it’s really very interesting. This white horse is my first horse. (laughs)”
9. Pyoseon Beach
“Wow~ It’s the sea!” The two guys jump for joy upon seeing the sea. Jeju’s Pyoseon Beach is the only place where the coastal road and the beach are right next to each other, and the naturally formed Pine Tree Campground, which is just right for camping car trips.
