So good-looking. It’s drizzling today, and it’s damp everywhere. In a studio at Gangnam we saw Eric. The first word that came to mind was ‘훈남’. Wearing a black hat and simply dressed, this man still glows. He looks like he has lost some weight, and he says it is probably because he has started the filming on 30 April.
Being paid 30,000,000won an episode, ‘trying my best’ is not enough, it ‘must be done well’.
Eric stars in KBS 2TV’s drama ‘Strongest Chil Woo’ which premieres 9 June as an assassin. This story is based on Jo Seon Dynasty, and is adapted from a story involving 7 scholars, who were given birth by concubines, portraying the lives of civilians. This drama also portrays the culture of the Jo Seon times where junior officials had to go through obstacles set by their seniors, women who were wronged, an unfortunate female poet.
This was how his life after the filming of ‘Que Sera Sera’. ‘From the end of last year till this April, we’ve been around staging concerts, right until our 10th anniversary concert, and then the preparations for our 9th album.’ This was how Eric spent his time as a singer without any ongoing filming projects. And now, he is back as an actor, Mun Jung Hyuk. ‘I did think of going straight into army right after our 10th anniversary concert. But I incidentally came across this script and found it very interesting. I didn’t want to miss this chance and I told myself I must do it.’ Being a low junior official in the day, he transforms into an assassin who seeks to redress injustice, and Eric likes this character.
Attempting historic period drama for the first time, he did feel lost. ‘I turned to Jung Jin, who played Joo Sung-tae in Super Rookie, for help. The sudden change in the kind of drama is challenging, and I seeked brother Jung Jin’s help.’ Jung Jin accepted the request. ‘During filming, hiong helped me a lot. Thanks to him, filming became a lot more interesting. It was only later that he found out that he has a role in the show as well. Having worked out his schedule, he finally accepted this role. Although he plays a rather small role, he still agreed to do it, I’m really grateful.'
