Singer Junjin (29) has given some advice to younger idol groups who face problems due to disagreements between members.
Together with fellow Shinhwa member Shin Hyesung and other artists including Super Junior Happy, Junjin participated in the 2009 K-Pop Super Live Concert on 31 Jan. At the post-concert press conference he said, “Recently there are news (of changes of members in idol groups) that have caused fans, media and even idol group members to be concerned about the lifespan of idol groups. If there are any groups out there who are facing such problems, I’d like to tell them not to misunderstand each other because of frequent arguments.”
“I’ve seen some of the earlier groups who chose not to clear up misunderstandings because of pride, and in the end the relationship worsened to a stage where there was no way to salvage it. The Shinhwa members are able to have a relationship akin to that of brothers because even when we just made our debut, we argued and fought but we would resolve the misunderstanding quickly.” As a matter of fact, the members of Shinhwa, who made their debut in 1998, all belong to different management companies now and are all focusing on their solo careers, but the sense of belonging to Shinhwa has never changed.
Junjin also talked about the pros and cons of solo activities. “In a group, when certain members have more exposure in their solo projects, misunderstandings and unhappiness tend to arise between the more popular members and the less popular members. Shinhwa was once facing this problem too. But we don’t get jealous over each other’s work, instead we would learn from them and work harder to be outstanding.
“For me, in order not to get left behind by my peers who can both sing and dance well, I worked hard towards releasing a solo album. Positive thinking is very important. Not only for the past 10 years, but for the next 10 years, we hope that Shinhwa, with its group longevity, will be able to pave the way for the juniors.”
